Dead Head
« on: November 05, 2013, 09:34:50 AM »
I was dropping down a dark timbered ridge while spike elk hunting and jumped a branched antler bull. I followed his trail, and as I came through the branches of a small sapling I discovered this near the bottom of a gulley.

It was the first time I've ever found a full skull, so thought I'd share.

Cheers!

When I found it I was quite startled. Following a running bull's trail, hitting some denser cover, looking to cross a gulley, pull back a sapling branch, and BAM!!! Horns! Yowza, it definitely got my attention real quick-like.  :chuckle:

I marked the location with my GPS. I might try to get back in there in the spring to show my 13 year old son. Not sure it'll still be there given the gnawing that's already been going on....

Cheers!

Very nice find!!! Here's a nice 3 point buck i found surrounded by it's bones last year when i was deer hunting. Its G-2's were covered by pine needles at first i thought it was just a forked horn but turned out to be a pretty sweet buck.

Reminds me of a 5x6 I found in colorado...it had less rodent damage but more UV deterioration.
