hound pup
« on: April 03, 2014, 02:05:50 PM »
So I was looking for a pup and I kinda got it narrowed down to a blue tick, or a black and tan.So I was just wondering if any of you guys got a pup you would want to sell.

Black and Tans make it happen

Walkers watch it happen

Blueticks wonder what happened

 :chuckle:

but seriously don't count out any breed.  might look into Catahoula dogs too  :dunno:

 :yeah:

wouldn't be good for areas with low coon numbers but it's nice that they are a bit easier to call off if you're hunting areas close to private

Are you confusing American Leopard Curs with Catahoula Leopard Curs?  Just curious.  One is a track and tree dog and one is a stock dog.

Widgeon,
Just keep a close eye on the classifieds all over the state and you'll find a pup.  The tough thing is that there are not a lot of reputable breeders in this part of the country.  I think Cascade Blueticks is the name of a place and I know there are some breeders in Oregon.  Be prepared to spend some coin on a good pup unless you get lucky.

My advice, once again, would be to not get wrapped up in a certain breed because you never know what will pop up in the newspaper or elsewhere.

I had my heart set on a walker when an advertisement for a papered B&T came up for only $225...needless to say he is ours now   :chuckle:

If you want a REALLY nice Bluetick pup and not pay an arm and a leg contact Terry Zink in Marion, MT.  He has Cameron and Smokey River Blueticks and they are outstanding dogs.  Tell Terry that Fred referred you.  If you want I can PM you his phone number.  Also every spring up there they have a Field Trial with houndsmen from Canada, MT and ID.  It's a blast, treeing contest, water races, drags etc.  Lots of great guys to go and meet and see a bunch of different dogs and they usually have some puppies for sale and for free.

I have 4 black and tans not color blind with hounds all breeds are good but I have enjoyed the black and tan the most. Have plotts and have owned blue tick and a walker cross. I would call Ken Duncan for the b&t super honest guy gaurantees pups and they are usually 300 dollars, my son bought one from him this year that is working out great. I think kens website is under treehounds.

Take a look at the coon hound rescue web site.  I got my sweet Black and Tan from there.  Give a great dog a new life.  They have pups from time to time.
