Price for a bear rug?
« on: July 31, 2014, 09:06:21 PM »
What's a good price for a bear rug? I am going in a hunt in a few weeks and if I get lucky was hoping to get a rug done if it was reasonable enough. What's the average price range?  This will be black bear. Also what about the skull?

Thanks

It all depends on the size. Average ranges from $150/foot - $200ish roughly. Measured from nose to butt I believe. I got my first last year and it's a little over a grand for the rug. And the skull would be an extra fee to whiten I think. Not sure exact price on the but around $100. Maybe a little less. Gives you a ballpark at least. Good luck out there

:yeah: for price but you may want to hold off on getting a rug with an August or early September bear. Everyone of course has their own opinion but to me bears hides at this time of year aren't worth it. :twocents:
Good luck on the hunt.

Is that for a rug mounted to felt or the cost to just tan the hide?  I'm wondering the same things and am not sure about the terminology on bear mounts.

those numbers would work out to 900-1200 for a 6 foot bear which sounds about what I have heard over the last few years poking around....just in case I ever kill a bear

What about just getting it tanned?

I paid $175 per linear ft. from the tip of nose to the tip of that tail for a fully felted rug.. Skull cleaned, jaw wired and put on a plaque was $150 more.

Sometimes the price of a bear rug is extremely high, including years of frustration and sleepless nights.  Make sure you research potential taxidermists before you make your selection.  Just sayin'. :peep:
