30-378, what scope?
« on: January 21, 2015, 09:53:11 PM »
Just picked up a Weatherby Mark V 30-378 and I'm on the hunt for good optics for it now. Recommendations?  I've got a Leupold Mark 4 on a 308 with custom turrets. I've thought about another one but have thought Huskamaw as well. Thought?
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Tough to beat the ones with a gold ring around the end, with m-1's..

One of the reasons I ask is I've been told they tend to break scopes and mounts from the massive recoil  :'( :chuckle: Read one post a guy put a $1600 Swarokski on it and it destroyed it within 60 shots. Wondering if anyone has tried turrent type scopes with them?

M-1'S are turrets.

They arent any harder on scopes than any other large magnum with a brake. My cousin has a 338-378 and has used nikon and currently has a burris fftac30 on it. I would just make sure you go with a scope with repeatable turrets if you are trying to shoot far.

Yep, got a few sets of em. Sure wouldn't run a huskemaw on it. Your original question is what scope right?

well, with that cannon, what is the barrel twist, and what bullet are you going to use....the 30-378 has some huge potential

I have a 30-378 mark 5 and I have a leopold 6 t0 20 a 50 mm and it has a turnet top and I like it and have no problems with recoil and it has a muzzle brake on it. I also have a wby 378-338 and no problem with it either with the same scope.

BSA all the way.........

Buy a scope with a lifetime warranty no matter what you get. I might try a nice Vortex, Zeiss, Leupold to start.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

What ever scope you go with I'd mount it with a 20moa rail

the only logical bullet choice would be 230 bergers!  :chuckle: the mag length will be the limiting factor with that rifle.

What ever scope you go with I'd mount it with a 20moa rail

check the bullet trajectory first at the ranges you want to shoot , then compare it with the adjustability of the scope. 20 MOA rails sometimes are not needed...
