.22-250 Loads for 1 in 12 Twist???

First, does anybody out there have a Savage Model 12 or Model 10 in .22-250? If so, could you share any loads that have been shooting well. I've shot several combos of bullets and powder, and just haven't found anything great yet. Right now, I am working up some Sierra 52 grain HPBT match in front of 36.5 grains of Varget.

Anyone else with a .22-250, especially if you have a 1 in 12 twist, please feel free to suggest your favorite load.

I have a Savage 1/12 take off barrel on a Stevens SA that really likes, 55 gr. sierra gamekings and 38.5grs. of IMR 4007ssc.
This is a load for my gun only. (Disclaimer) Work up your load in your gun. Using Hodgdons recomended load data.

Thanks Slenk. I was hoping you'd chime in. I did a search and I think I saw that you mentioned owning a Savage .270 and then you mentioned a .22-250. I've tried 50gr., 52 gr., and 55gr. Sierras, but the powder you suggest is new for me. I'll give it a try after a burn through the new tub of Varget I just bought. I see a lot of competition guys are shooting Sierra 53 grain Matchkings through 1 in 12 barrels and using H-380 powder. You have any experience with this powder? I've heard people claim it is real sensitive to temperature changes and not a great all around hunting powder.

I'm loading molyed 50gr. V-max's over 38.5 gr. of RL-15 in WW brass w/CCI 200's. 3850fps and 1/2 MOA.

Thats the exact same load my old man uses in his 250's, a ruger #1, and a Rem classic. They shoot....

Thanks a bunch guys. I'll definitely be trying these loads out. I've tried most of the bullets mentioned. Just sounds like I gotta go buy some powder and find the right powder combo.

Jamieb, I like the stock. Looks alot better than that damn camo gun wrap around my model 12. I keep threatening to paint my stock when I get some time. i might hit you up for some pointers when I'm ready.

I'm using 52gr Speer flatbase HP's over 39gr of H-380 and 55gr Rem Sp's over the same load in my Stevens 200.  My partner is running the same powder in his Rem 22-250 under 50gr NBT's.

Thanks AWS. I'll have to go back and work up a load with some flat base - been loading mostly boattails. I've got a box of 55gr Rem SP. Looks like I just need to get to town and pick up some H-380. I almost did the other day, but some guy scared me away from it claiming it is too sensitive to temperature changes (might shoot different in the morning than in the afternoon). You ever here anything like this about the H-380?

I've never had a problem but have heard some temp sensitive reports but I think it more developing a load in the early spring and then hunting or shooting in July in high heat. Or letting your shells bake in the sun for awhle.

H380 is not temp sensitive.  Plus it's ball and meters super accurate.  The only time this would be an issue is when you are right at the pressure limit before punching a primer at a load you worked up at 40 degrees.  Then you went and shot the same load on a 100 degree day after leaving you ammo in the PU.  Even then it would probably not punch every round.

I used H-380 for years and I always found a good load with it and 50-55gr bullets but I stopped using it after trying RL-15 with 50gr. bullets. The only time I had any problem with H-380 and temps, I worked up a pretty hot load in the winter 30*-35*,  shooting in the summer 85*+ primmers were very loose. H-380 seemed to foul a bbl fast too. With RL-15 and molyed V-max;s I can go over 1000 rounds between cleanings, I hate cleaning rifles and put it off until accuracy go's.
