Swarovski x5i long range scope
« on: March 08, 2015, 06:03:23 PM »
Looks like swarovski is finally putting out a long range scope. Im pretty excited about this scope but still a little Leary. I do about 20-25 custom gun setups a year and pretty much only use night force, and I love them. But Swarovski makes the best glass bar none and if they can incorporate nightforces ergonomics and there turret design then they should be quite the contender. I talked to Swarovski and they said they would send me a demo at wholesale so I'm contemplating picking one up. Do you long range enthusiast think that they can keep up with night force. I'll put A picture up of the scope. They have two models 3.5-18 x50 and 5-25x56

Swaro is top tier when it comes to binos and spotters but I've never liked their scopes. The scopes I've looked through were pretty disappointing. I imagine that the rifle scope will be in the $2000 + range minimum and at that point I'd start looking at the March scopes or even some of the S&B or USO offerings on the used market.

Is that a 1" tube or 30 mm?  I agree with the above, they make nice spotter and binocs but I have not felt the urge to go with their scopes over Leupold for the extra money. I have found some good deals on used leupolds and have stayed with them.

I guess I'll be the counterpoint.  I love their spotters and binos, as well as their scopes.  I went through several scopes looking for the best for my hunting.  Settled on:

Z5 3.5-18x42 best sub 1lb scope I could find
Z6i 2-12x50 I LOVE that little red dot for dark timber hunting.

I think they will be a very nice scope if you can change out to a customized turret. The only other thing I'm worried about it is tracking issues, I've used leupold mark 4 and huskemaws that have had problems tracking. I set up atleast a dozen nightforces last year and never ran into a problem one. And nightforce nsx scopes are a little more than half the cost of this scope.

For $3000 I'd be buying a Vortex Razor Gen II, NF BEAST or a Schmidt & Bender PMii. IMO, Swarovski is like Zeiss in the scope market. They both make great optics, but their scopes are 5-10 years behind the curve.

I recently picked up a Steiner T5Xi 5-25x56 34mm tube for $1650. They hit a home run with that scope. German glass, great turrets, illuminated reticle, compact size with a 34mm tube, and under $1800.
