..and smelled horrible.  wife NOT happy,  at least it was in the kennel.  Worms were described as long, thin and pinkish white.  not maggots.  She's been digging at a couple gopher holes in the yard, assume she caught one.

wonder if I should do a stool sample to the vet check her for worms,  she's had the puppy routine 3 rounds of worms shots.  9mo old now.
not 100% sure the worms were from the gopher or her,  she barfed her dog food the other day in the yard and had it half ate back up when I went to see what it was.

food gobbling demon,  thinking about getting a slow feeder.

I did walk around the yard looking at poo  :chuckle:
no sign of worms, don't mean they aren't there though.

Yep, time to take a poo bag and the dog to the vet.  Might even want to take a picture of the gopher and worms.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

What diameter and shape are these worms?  Larger than spaghetti or smaller?  Only two worms I'm familiar with that would be coughed up - Round Worms and Heart Worms.  Both real bad if in the lungs!!!  Not as bad in the stomach, but still not a good thing.  See vet immediately would be my advise!

Just go down to your local farm supply store and buy a de-wormer.  Our vet recommended de worming our bird dogs twice a year minimum if they are out in the field.  She said even if they don't need it, it won't hurt them.  Not to mention it is pretty cheap.

I was kind of thinking the gopher was full of worms,  not sure worms from gopher would transfer to a dog and survive.

Ya I'll be worming her anyways for sure it's almost due anyways little early wouldn't hurt.

The worms won't transfer but the eggs will.  And where there are worms the eggs will be there to.

Good thing to wash you hands like there is no tomorrow!!  Also, round worms eggs will lay dormant in your soil dang near forever.  So you will want to keep the pup on a monthly Heart Guard treatment.  Vet told us it is not a treatment for round worm but it does stop them from becoming a problem.  Our dogs had round worms before the age of one when we started giving them the Heart Guard.  Not one single worm since...thank goodness! :puke:

Heartworm is usually transmitted via mosquitoes. I'm not sure how it is where you are KF but I know the risk is usually lower east of the mountains compared to west. It's more of a wetter climate problem.

Go to your vet with a stool sample and worm the dog.

Panacur at Wilco or Dels will take care of everything but heartworm which is not common in OR or WA.
