Idaho OIL
« on: May 03, 2015, 04:43:17 PM »
Which species and unit did you put in for now that the deadline has passed and are you part of resident or non resident draw pool?

I am in for unit 19A Rocky Mountain bighorn, resident of course. Can't wait for results.

Area 37, Bighorn Sheep. After reading Eastman's article on the horrible draw odds for Non-Resident I'm slightly less optimistic. With a 10% Non-Res cap on tags out of staters odds are pretty awful. Depressing really....Especially since my odds of drawing MT non-resident are even worse, and resident WA odds are probably just as bad. I may never draw a sheep tag until I'm too old to go on the hunt!  :yike: Here's to hoping I get lucky! Good luck in the draws guys. If you don't want to be any more depressed on a Monday don't read this article.... :bdid:

Must not be talking about Idaho deer and elk permits. Can't do OILs and deer or elk in Idaho.

Yeah I just found that out.   :bash:  I suppose that cuts down on the number of applicants significantly.

Why?
because of how idaho runs their draws. They go through all the first choices and then any leftovers (underdrawn first choices) are drawn from the 2nd choice pool.

Thats exactly why they do it that way. To increase the odds in all the draws. You really have to commit to it versus putting your name in just because you can.

I like it, I just figured I've give deer a shot this year as well, but found out otherwise.  Next year perhaps after this moose tag is filled!

Nice thing is you can still buy an OTC deer tag good for most of the state
