Thanks Skyvalhunter for the vote of confidence...and Lokidog, just fyi, but as you know they have had a really dry and hot year over there so far...we were at my Dad's on the 4th of July and it was crazy dry. Don't worry though as this really shouldn't affect your hunt since it is so late in the year. Just remember what I said about not needing a boat to scout...yes, you will need one to hunt, but for now if you get a day or two to just drive over there, bring along a spotting scope and go up to the fire camp up 25 mile creek, set up and start glassing. You can also go to the very end of the South Shore road and hike out a trail away from the houses, only really needing to go about 100 yards, and again, set up the spotting scope. You can also stop along the South Shore road and glass across the lake. Right now, of course your best times are first light and last light...but at least you can get a "lay of the land" and not have to trailer your boat all the way over there.

If you do take your boat and want to camp, just remember that there are only two spots in that area on the North Shore to moore your boat...Deer Pt. and Safety Harbor Creek, between those to camp areas is pretty much your entire sheep area anyway...the winds can get crazy in that part of the lake (yes, I know, you live in the San Juan's, but it's a little different when your fighting a gale wind with no dock around and shear cliffs for shoreline with no protective coves...)

I'm heading back over there in two weeks...I'll give you another update upon my return.

Oh, and if the Swakane tag holder is reading this too...there was a band of Rams at Rocky Reach Dam on the 6th of July...apparently someone puts a salt lick out for them right across from the dam on the old paved Swakane rd (not the dirt one that you can use, but directly across from the visitor center parking lot at Rocky Reach dam)...one ram was a shooter! just make sure to step off the highway first :)

I'd still have my rifle close by.........its cool terrian but you might have a longer shot too.  It is an OIL opportunity.

Definitely the plan, I think I've got about two dozen potential sherpas.....    :chuckle:

Count me as one potential.. Do you have a boat? That is definitely the easiest way to spot them in my opinion..  :twocents:

Oh yeah, I think I have a boat.....    :chuckle:  Sounds great Hirshey.  With you there, I don't think I'd need any of these other guys....      ;)

I guess I know how I rate now. :yike:

One smoking hot good looking hunting babe, and I get kicked to the curb!  >:(

Yep I would kick my butt to the curb also to be able to hunt with her to. :chuckle:

Whose house at the end of the road on the south shore would you park in and hike up the trail? Maybe I'm wrong again but that is all private. That is a private road. I know the homeowners there and never once thought about asking them if I could park in their parking spots and go scouting. The forest svc keeps their gate locked for some reason :dunno: You should meet Jim and Sarah at the lama ranch.  Or camp chelan.net :dunno: Thats all I can think of except how do you use a spotting scope out of a boat? You need to meet the owners of the northshore docks cause thats where you will be hunting

G-C-R, thanks for the info.  Wish I could be there in two weeks and meet up, unless you will be there 11th-15th?

Not sure if your permit is open around the WalMart in Chelan, but I darn near ran over an entire heard of Big Horn Sheep last evening. I drive thru there all the time. Typically you can find them on the hillside back behind the WalMart and on left if you are heading on 97 North. They cross 97 to get to water in the Columbia.

Hope the Chelan Butte guy knows to check there...

Just opened up my paperwork envelope.  Looks like they expect us to do a whole bunch of surveying for them as well; How many ewes/lambs/three quarter curl or better rams did we see each day?

Got to follow this one!
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Well, can you blame them? Hunters get out earlier, more frequently travel off trail, and pay attention to those statistics.. :) you're the pro!
I am not opposed to golf, for I suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering deer.

No need to go over anytime soon...visibility is about 100-200 yards...now way to scout anything in the Chelan valley until the Wolverine Cr fire dies down.
