My first Grouse!
« on: October 11, 2015, 02:13:37 PM »
Finally got my first grouse! Drove up to some logging roads after hiking up a mountain and almost hit the darn thing! ran out right in front of me! got out started looking for him, finally get the shot I'm looking for he then he moves, I do also. As soon as I take the shot he bobs his little head away!  :bash: I try following him and leads me to about 5 others. manage to take one with my 10/22 after flushing them all and trying to find the darn things. I thought I'd share and say thank you to all for the awesome posts and great information! last thing, any good recipes you know off the top of your heads? thanks!

Use the search feature on here.  Lots of great mouth watering threads with grouse recipes.   Just had some grouse rice a roni with chantrels.   Nummy!

Breast it out, wrap in bacon and soak in teriyaki over night.  Then throw on BBQ or bake

Right wing shooter, I aim for the left!!!

Nowhere in your incoherent rambling did you come close to what can be considered a rational thought. Everyone is now dumber having heard it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.

Love me some grouse!  Nice work!  I like to cut the breasts into strips, roll in flower with salt and pepper and fry them up in the pan with canola oil (or something similar).  Simple, but awesome.  "Grouse nuggets" like that might be my kids' favorite meal.

Congratulations!  Nice thing about grouse, unlike pheasant or turkey, as long as you don't over cook them it's darn near impossible to find a recipe that doesn't taste great!
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

My favorite grouse recipe, too.  Can't beat chicken fried grouse!

In huntin camp when someone comes back with one we have it with dinner that night. We usually slice the breasts into 1/2-3/4" steaks dredge in flour and fry golden brown then make a good pan gravy out of the pan drippings and serve over fried potatoes.
