Peanut butter bacon sandwhich
« on: October 18, 2016, 04:17:18 PM »
K so I would love to hear how you guys do it exactly. Do you pre make them and put them in zip lock bags? Or do u bring a jar of PB and honey packets and make them in the field? Do I use bread or bagels? Do u toast the bread? Do they sweat in zip lock bags?

Also how long do they last?

Never really seen exactly how to do this so I would love to hear from the experts!

Just depends for me. I'll bring them pre-made in ziploc bags and I also bring wheat bread loaf, jars and knife in case a little more snack is needed. Never had issues either way. I hate when I forget and lean against the pack and flatten it though. Experiment with what you like,  it's all trial and error.

I assume we're talking about mountain man sandwiches for backpacking.

Bagels, peanut butter, bacon and honey. Bread won't hold up although when the honey soaks through the bread, oh man, that is amazing.
Pre-made in ziplock bags.
Squeeze the air out of them.
Sweat has not been an issue for me.
They last at least 5 days.
They're amazingly delicious.

One suggestion I got a while back on here was to use tortillas instead of bread. They hold up better.

I always pre make them. Either at home or at the truck. I mix peanut butter, ( I prefer chunky) Honey and some maple syrup together. If at home I do it in a bowl.

Bagels or bread will both work. But if you want them for more than a day then use bagel of your choice.

Spread both sides of the sandwhich and heap bacon in the middle, warm bacon is preferred as it will melt together nicely. Keep several days. I usually eat them quick though because they are good and weigh a fair bit.

Bagels, toasted so the bread doesn't absorb it as much, and then make them in advance and vacuum seal them. I made them 3 weeks in advance this year and they were still great.

Toast the bagel, spread peanut butter and honey, and sandwich the bacon. I put them in ziplocks and they lasted 3 weeks before I ate them all this year.

I make them up like this ,
I prefer bagels, I mix peanut butter, honey, jam together then put into a freezer bag and use like a piping bag I put as much mix on both halves then add 6 cut in 1/2 strips of bacon ( I use my KC style) lightly press together thin into the freezer for a couple hours and onto the vac sealer ! I do up 12-18 at a time   I just had one that was frozen from last years Idaho hunt and was just like it was made yesterday. I have had no problems with them being unrefrigerated for 10+ days vac sealed

Awesome
Thanks for the replies everyone! I will try the vacuum sealer.

I was also thinking of doing tortilla, Italian dry salami and cheese together. Anyone tried this or know if the salami will stay good for 4-5 days?

Sounds like the bacon is no prob for lasting a week or so!
