Currently has a 396/th400. Next year we are  building a .030 over 454 and manual. Have most of the 454 parts, just need to get heads and block machined and everything balanced plus gaskets/bearings/seals etc.

The waiting for stuff, it sucks!
I almost,, ALMOST, understand why I see so many unfinished projects and project's for sale. I've had most of my new motor parts for almost a year now and waiting for stuff to get "done" by others is painful.

Going to need a good wet sand and cut/buff to get all of the trash out of it. We were getting a lot of little fibers floating around the booth, kind of expecting a little bit of it, but not as bad as it was. The joys of doing it yourself with not perfect equipment, but i can’t complain with the cost!

I must say, I'm a little bit jelly right now. Although Sunday my car moves from the car trailer back into the shop for new suspension, vinyl top, headliner and of course new tranny and disc brakes on all 4 corners. At some point the new inner fenders will go in to.

Wet sanding and buffing sucks, but sure does make a difference. Looking forward to seeing more pics!

I painted a 70 Cutlass outside one time. About the nicest paint job I did. Got 1 little gnat in it that was easy to take care of. Only reason I tried it was because I was going through a divorce, money was tight. No access to a booth and happened to read an article about it in Hot Rod magazine. Picked a nice calm morning and went after it. I was surprised how good it turned out. Got a lot of compliments on it.

More developments in “what actually is/was the car”. In doing the dash/gauges and wiring I got to looking up factory tach options, mine has a 5.5k redline, 7k max which was only installed in BB 396 cars. Doing a little more poking around tonight, it has the BB fan shroud bracket, which this particular one was only on 69 396 cars. I am starting to think it may be an SS/RS, rather than the RS we have been thinking. Power disk in the front, multi leaf pack in the rear, turbo 400, cowl hood also point to BB, but were also SB options. Unfortunately we will never know for sure, but the more I dig the more it points to SS/RS 396…  granted all of these things could have been swapped at one point, but I am not so sure that they would swap the tach, as well as a little fan shroud bracket to match the motor when they weren’t concerned enough to keep the trim tag in the car…

Can you find out by going off the vin number? Maybe contacting GM?

Vin tells you nothing other than 2 door hardtop coupe, when and where it was built. There is a fisher body tag that tells everything else, but that is missing on our car.

Back home and officially ready for paint - just waiting for my slot to open up at the paint shop

Did you have someone local do some bodywork?
