My first Grouse
« on: October 07, 2017, 10:38:42 AM »
Finally my hunt for the elusive forest chicken was successful. After equipping myself with a new 20ga, I decided to head out into the west side forests and see if I could find anything. After a few frustrating days of scaring birds from cover and hiking all over the woods, I started to see their preferred habitat. I went back to a few locations I had flushed birds from, but slower and more focused. I listened and watched for movement with my gun readied. Sure enough It was my day to harvest a few of these beautiful birds and feed my family fresh game for the first time! I'm excited to continue hunting responsibly and learn more about all the amazing game animals we have here in this state. Thanks for reading, I hope to post more successful hunts soon as I have been spending time at the Snohomish county pheasant fields and I'm determined to get a few birds!

Nice grouse and nice narrative, too. Thanks for sharing and here's to more successful hunts. :yeah:

I just season with Johnney's and wrap with bacon, must try adding brown sugar, yum.

Thanks everyone!

Turns out it was my week for a Pheasant as well. I dried out the skin and head with borax and ordered a medium form. I didn't measure so I'm hoping it turns out ok, my guess was around 3lbs? I don't expect it to be pretty but that's ok its my first attempt after all!

Ill have to try crescent lake, Ebey is hard work with out a dog = )

Yea check out Crescent Lake, Cherry Valley, and Stillwater. they're all pretty close to each other, a few minute drives from each other.
Just wait till someone misses and there are too many people missing all the time, and shoot that pheasant. Good luck!

Beautiful bird btw!
