300 or 340
« on: November 18, 2017, 04:40:47 PM »
So I went to a well know shop in the area today. I had them look over a used bow I bought to make sure it was good to go. I also had them cut me some arrows for the bow. My draw is 26.5 inches with a 65 lbs . The arrow length is 27 inches. I didnt think about this to much as im new to this bow . The spines are 300 . I think that is to stiff for the length etc... Is that correct ? The Arrows are Beaman classic hunter. Jason

That is probably a bit stiff for that draw length and weight, but if you can get them to shoot straight than stick with them, every bow and arrow combo has a different result you will just have to see how that setup works for you

I think 400 would be good, maybe  340.
I'm not sure.

340 is what would be recommended by most arrow manufacturer......but like said already try what you have and see if the shoot and group well.  Put a 125 grain tip on them as apposed to 100 grain.  I would rather be over spined than under......as long as they group well.  400 is under spined in my opinion.

340 is the spine recommended, however, if you can get a heavier stiffer arrow to fly good it will perform better under all conditions. Kinetic energy is measured at the bow. A stiffer heavier arrow will have more down range penetration and kinetic energy. I shoot long distance field. A 120 gr tip flies flatter and has better control in the wind than a 100 gr tip at 100 yds. A slower controllable arrow in the middle beats a fast arrow in the dirt every time.

400 is what is recommended At 26.5 " of draw 27" arrow.
340 cut to 30" would be about where you would want to be.
300 good luck getting anything to group.
I'm not sure.

If they're worth their stones, the shop should replace them for you unless you specifically requested the 300s.

I'd try them first, you may be surprised. Better to be over spined then under as has been said.

300 spine will be fine. A stiffer spine will fly great is your now is tuned. Now if they where under spine I would worry.  I shoot 250 spine out of a 63lb bow 30.5 draw and can group just as good as when I grab 340 spine. Its all in the tune

Tune is important but without the proper spine your groups will not be as tight as you may want. It all depends on how picky you are about your groups. Aim small hit small. You should only be able to shoot 1 broad head per target if it is grouping correctly or you will ruin arrows. Always account for the what if's when hunting . Not every scenario plays out as expected. The better you group down range the more likely that in a bad scenario you will make a clean kill
