Who is bringing a boat?
Me and stump are but if my wife and one kid go its full. We should really try and see how much boat room we have. Not that you have to have one but it is nice.

Like stated earlier we can also run people up the Palouse a mile or so, about a 20 minute ride from camp. That is where a large portion of the cats will be, at least if it is windy.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Teacherman,

I have not fished over there before I have a 21 foot Skeeter bass boat, I do not know if that is adequate for that kind of water, what kind of boat works in there? Do you need a sled??

I'm bringing a little 12' aluminum with a 10 hp.  It won't get wet if the wind is blowing but if the weather cooperates I will take it up the Palouse.  Right now it's just me and the black dog so I can fit one depending on conditions.

Anyone know how to take the image off the document and post it in the body of my reply?  Or how to label on a pic and keep it a pic?  I'm not to good with this stuff.  It took me half an hour and a few phone calls to get the text on to the pic/document.

One thing I would suggest for anyone bringing kids or just anyone interested is contacting the hatchery and seeing if they will set up a tour of the facility.  I'm not sure what will be going on there then but it's kind of cool to see how it all works.  I will also suggest stopping at Palouse Falls on your way out if you have never been.

I got my reservation today. It will probley be just the two of us and my boat is big enough for a couple other fisherman if there is a need. Teacherman how big of an anchor are you talking about we need. My boat is a 23 foot alumaweld like you see at bonnieville.

There are several road cuts on the way to Lyons ferry that have some really accessable rocks. Last year we stopped and got about a 50 pound rock and tied an anchor with it. The 18 pound anchor we had in the boat was a joke. We took it and put it off the back side and the large rock off the front and between the two of them we did good. I would say with your boat at least one 20 lb off the back and a 25 -35lb off the front. The only reason for such heavy anchors is the wind. We have a top on the Alumaweld causing a lot of drag, if your boat is a sled style you wouldn't have as much drag making it so you don't need as much weight.

Check out this google earth photo. You can see the shallows on the back bay. If you go to google earth and type in Lyons Ferry, Starbuck, WA you will find it. You can see several locations where you could fish from shore. I used the ruler to figure out how far up the palouse we went last spring and it was almost 5 miles, but we fished as close as .25 miles.

One more pic, you can see the state park on the otherside of the bridge. Last year it was not open yet but people would park at the top by the road and walk down in and fish off of the banks down there. This can be a decent location.

:EAT: I have been talking with Teacherman and we have decided to go ahead and barbeque hamburgers and hot dogs for Saturday evenings meal. I figured about 60 hamburgers and some ball park franks for the kids and maybe some polish sausage or something along that line for the whomever. This can give others something to build on. :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :cue: :stirthepot:

Shoot, that's a good idea!  I know of a few spots over here to catch sunfish easily.
