What gloves in cold weather?
« on: December 13, 2017, 03:33:50 PM »
I've always just fought the cold and never wore gloves but i think I'm going to give in and buy a good pair for next year. What gloves work for you that are thin enough to work a release and don't get wet at the first sign of snow or rain? Do they even exist?

Well I have many sets of hunting gloves, wool ones the fingers fold back off your fingers for shooting for really cold days, thin camo ones for chili mornings, insulated rubber ones when the shooting stops and the work starts.

I have never found that one glove does it all, but I don’t buy the Gucci high end clothing either.

For late archery I use the hobo style gloves with the mittens that fold back. Magnet catch, no velcro.  this is pretty close to what I've been using for a while.

I use a Cabela's Wooltimate Down Muff and instead of putting the strap around my neck I cinch it up around my waist and keep my release hand in it as much as I can.  Looks like I am not alone.  I tried to see if it is still available and others have referenced it on Archery Talk.  Gloves don't work for me with release and I have tried the ones I use when upland hunting that work very well for that.   I use a Cabelas Glomitt on my left hand or one of my upland gloves if it is not as cold.

If you want full fingers I like the mechanix
Fingerless I cut down the primos camo with texture beads on them (cheap)

It probably doesn't really matter what gloves as long as you practice with them on. I have just worn a relatively waterproof one on my bow hand and then have a couple release hand gloves that I can swap out if they get too soaking wet.
