If you aren't excited to draw a tag or trying to decide if it's "worth it" to go on the hunt, then don't apply!  :bash:

I understand the dilemma. He drew a quality elk permit as well, which was probably also unexpected.

I apply for this hunt because I want a ewe sheep to go with my ram when I get drawn.  Side by side full mount of both.  :chuckle:

:yeah: I wasn't side by side pedestal mount some day. My old taxidermist had a really cool one he had of a Ram and Ewe he shot in Montana.

I harvested a ram in 2012, loved the experience, trophy and the meat was outstanding. I drew the ewe tag this year and look forward to harvesting and mounting the ewe, along side my ram, and replenishing the freezer. Best wild game meat that I have ever eaten. The tag price is steep at $332, but not when you consider your draw odds, it's a bargain.

You'll have a blast.  The south face of Clemans can be either blazing hot or bitter cold in October, so just be prepared for extremes.  You'll have no trouble finding the sheep.  The Clemans herd sees hundreds and hundreds of hikers and cervid hunters every year for each tag holder that actually poses a danger to them.  I walked up on a decent ram in his bed (which was 60 yds from a road) a couple years ago: I stopped when he stood up, we stared at each other for a couple minutes, and he bedded right back down in front of me.  He was in my path to my deer hunt, so after about 20 minutes of watching him I moved towards him and got within about 25 yards before he calmly walked away.  His bachelor group watched me stalk a buck and didn't spook off until my rifle went off.

If you need help packing it out, hit me up.  My schedule is limited, but I'd love to lend a hand if possible.

I applied for ewe sheep this year for the first time ever, but I applied as a partner with my 12 year old daughter, to try to give her a better chance of drawing the tag. She didn't have any points but with my points we were in the draw with eight. The cost for a kid to purchase the tag is only $125. I think they should all go to kids.

Fully agree.
AMEN!

Same here, I dont apply for this.  Ewes make babies. Id just assume they expand the herd if they have extra animals.  I suppose its a balance to generate funds.

To answer your question.  It should only take an hour or so to fill your tag.  Up to you if its worth 330.  It isnt for me.

Have a GREAT hunt and enjoy it. I am glad you bought the tag. The way I look at is "There are only so many sunsets". Folks my think they have all the time in the world to draw a tag, you do not. I am setting on 23 points for a ram and 15 points for a ewe. If I drew the ewe tag, I would pay the money like you did and go hunting. Some on said you will run out of health be fore you run out of money (This was related to hunting). I have lived long enough to know not to pass up an opportunity. You never know when you will be taking the big dirt nap. Hunt.
There are only so many sunrises left.

Well said and I 💯 agree! Make the most of every opportunity and enjoy the experience. Life, and hunts are what you make of them.
