Want to sell a bear rug
« on: August 04, 2018, 04:18:05 PM »
I have a rug from a bear that I shot a few years ago.  It was a decent size female that taped out at 6'2" nose to tail.  Is there much demand out there for a rug?  If so, how much should I ask?  I spent close to $1000 to have it done.

Wow that’s a good size bear. Yeah I honestly doubt you will get out of it what you paid to have it done. I don’t think there’s a huge demand for bear rugs just my :twocents:. Sounds like a beauty and I wouldn’t part with it if it were mine

Is it legal to sell, I thought no part of a game animal in Washington could be sold.but maybe since processed that changes.

Seems to me that I've read you cannot buy or sell bear parts in Wa. I thought a person could buy/sell mounts and rugs though.

It’s legal to sell, best market is in commercial prop sales, ie resturants, bars, stuff like that.👍

Once it’s been taxidermied it’s good to go.

Pacific Galleries in Seattle sells stuff like this at auction, but it’s hard to tell what it would fetch at auction price, just depends on auction day and it wouldn’t warrant a reserve auction.

Good luck.

It is legal. The value will depend on quality of the mount.

In fact it is legal to sell even a raw bear hide. The only stipulation is you cannot sell the claws once removed from the hide.

:yeah:  To clarify, you can't sell parts (such as claws), you can only sell the whole hide.

What prices do whole raw hides fetch?  Got a few I want to tan.  What are taxidermists charging to just tan the hide?

I paid 125 a foot. Probably varies from one to another. The place I went had a good rep and was close to home.

Hopefully the $125 per foot was for a rug. Soft tan prices should be much less. 50-55$ per foot.  :twocents:
