Skunk Trapping
« on: August 16, 2018, 01:58:12 PM »
I read a post on trapperman today about using 7x7 and even 6x6 cage traps for skunks. I have always used 10x10, fearing refusals from larger skunks in the 7x7x24 single doors.

Has anyone ever used smaller traps for skunks and if so, how small can you get away with?

I have good luck with the 6 inch PVC pipe traps.  Had some mighty fat skunks in them.

I've trapped more than my fair share of big skunks in 7" x 7" traps. Refusals are more education than trap size.

Usually the problem is keeping skunks out of traps  :chuckle:

I caught a few skunks that had their love handles squeezing out the side of a trap.  Once it gets dark, a skunk seems to go just about anywhere
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Doug, I have always use Tomahawk 9x9x24" which I think is a model 108 or something like that.
But have also caught them in 10x12x32 raccoon size which is okay.
They just have more room to move around and lift there tails  :chuckle: :chuckle:

Chuck VD I think uses: 10x10x24"

Now bait for skunks would be a good subject some time.

I use 7x7 x24”.  Works very well.  Canned salmon from the dollar store works great too
