New to hunting Washington
« on: August 28, 2018, 02:58:18 AM »
Hello!
I've recently moved to Washington and trying to figure out the hunting game. Been a lurker for awhile and finally joined the forum. I've been along hunting with my uncles and cousins in Utah a couple times hunting mule deer and I'm hooked. My vacation time I have for work lines up perfectly for early muzzleloader deer and hopefully a black bear. From looking at onXmaps, I've been interested in GMUs 510,513, and 516. I'm looking for a possible hunting partner or someone to steer me in a direction that I'm looking in the right areas. Good luck this fall everyone!

Welcome to the forum. I'm not familiar with your GMUs but the harvest reports on the WDFW website can be a resource. Nothing beats getting out and learning the areas though. When I find an area I'm interested in on Google Earth or Onx or traditional maps, then I take a drive. Spend a few days in an area and you'll usually know if it's any good. Get up early and glass open areas. Hike around for sign. Anyway good luck.

Yeah, welcome to the forum. I'm also unfamiliar with those units. Eric has good advice. Put some boot leather down and get in it!

Some almost required reading for Washington hunting, certainly highly recommended anyway...

Thanks for the warm welcome, I listened to the hunt the backcountry podcast where the gentleman was talking about the bears, that's what mainly drove my desire for the bear. Time to get my legs working then and wear out my boots.

Those books are well worth the read. You only need Blacktail Trophy Tactics 2 it covers the same info as the first one and expands on it some.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.
