Rem 700 Detachable Mag Conversion?
« on: October 25, 2018, 11:22:27 AM »
I have a Rem 700 .300wsm sitting in a Manners SL stock that is having feeding issues that I believe are being caused by the spring/follower. Are there any detachable magazine kits that don’t require modifying the stock and/or action that you would recommend?

I have used this on a couple of 700's.  No mods were necessary and never had any function or feeding issues.

Only thing I am not certain is whether they will work with the short magnums...

I think the hs bottom metals work in bdl inlet but not sure
Watch out for loss of oal though. Yu should be able to make it work with the floorplate. Maybe replace the box, spring, and follower with Wyatt’s?

I have four different rifles with HS Prec detachable mag setups in them and they all feed very well.  I think, per HS Precision, they're supposed to be straight drop in setups with only light sanding possible on some stocks.  Mine were all installed when the guns were built so I can't say for sure if they require anything more than light sanding.  I'd give HS Prec. a call and see what they have to say.  I just talked to them Monday and they've always been very helpful with any and all of my questions.

I know with the extended mag boxes you'll need to have a small little piece milled out to make them fit.  You could probably do it with a Dremel but you'd want to have a pretty steady hand if you go that route.

HS are very nice but man does the OAL suck!

I have the Kwik on mine for about 5 years now.  I was originally worried about the quality, but they have been flawless.  The OAL is OK, I would prefer just a tad longer but they are perfectly acceptable and on par with other brands when I researched it.

Yeah, and don't lose a magazine because replacements are $100.  Don't ask how I know that.

Any of the rifles I have them in, OAL isn't an issue.  Anything I have with really long OAL's, either has an extended mag box or is a single shot.

Here you go. This should drop right in to a standard BDL inlet.

They have a couple different styles, so just pick the one you like. For magazines you can use the Accurate Mags WSM magazine or I think there may be one or two other places making them as well.

Don’t think the kwik klip will accept a wsm case. I would look into Wyatt dbm. They are supposed to be drop in for a bdl inlet.

A little update...all the ones I looked at said they will not be a straight drop-in. I started messing with the spring, and it can slide forward and backwards where it attaches to the hinged floorplate. I slid it all the way back towards the trigger guard, and now the rifle feeds just fine (it was only the last round coming out that would jam). Guess I saved myself some money for now.
