My dad likes to tell a story of an old timer that lived near them when he was a kid. The guy had a sawed off single shot 10 ga, loaded with small lead shot of course. The guy only duck hunted 1 day a year. He would wait for the fields below their house to flood and when the ducks got thick on it, he would spend a couple hour's belly crawling to within striking distance of it. One shot and he would knock down 25-30 birds at once. All he needed for the winter.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

I wonder how many Old Market Hunters saw the writing on the wall just in time and turned from the Dark Side.
It must have been quite a different way of hunting, raising your own live Decoys to fly up and lead back the incoming flocks of Geese and Ducks into the spread of more live Decoys, staked out in front, calling to their offspring circling up above.
I'll bet it must have been something to see.
(Born too late, think I.)

Thanks to groups like the"Dynamite Toting" Ducks Unlimited, we have the small pond habitat in Canada that the Ducks need to raise a nice brood of Northern Greenheads to fly south to us again.

So let me get this straight you would rather live in a time where hunting was unregulated to the point of hunting birds to extension rather than living now where we have conservation?

No I don't think that's his point. Relax. He likes to post cool pictures and memes. Even you can admit that a picture of a guy in a boat with an 8' long shotgun pointing out the bow is pretty cool.

Oh yeah the old photos are cool and I have seen quite a few videos of market hunting. It's interesting for sure. He just made a couple comments that made it sound like it was better times back then, then it is now.
