Help Aladdin Unit

Hey all just referred to this site. Nice. Hey I drew 2 special hunts this year. The 1st was an archery Toutle bull elk tag. I left the monsters up there for the rest of you and brought home a nice 5 point and a bobcat. The 2nd is a Nov 21st - 25th whitetail any buck in the Aladdin unit (111). I was hoping to get over there to scout a couple of time but elk season and life kind of got in the way. Is anyone familiar with the unit and can give me some info. Roads, property, etc. I really appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks, Scott

I'm not sure if onion creek is in the Aladdin unit or in Douglas, but any country up there that is state or federal will offer great oppurtunities. Alot of the lower land stuff is private. Smackout and west of Metaline has some, but is more suited for moose and elk. Dominion has some giants running around on it all the way down to town. Good luck, and glad you found this site.

Those are great dates usually. The deer will be moving around and looking for does so don't worry about Mt peaks and the hairy steep dark stuff. Go where the does are. On the way out from Pinkney city going north there's private grassy bottoms all the way along to Deep Lake. It's hard to know sometimes exactly where private ends but there's just tons and tons of state/lumber company ground. You can get off the road and behind some private or into some lower elevation clear cuts without any problem. I think Old Dominion in in your area but Onion Creek is not. I Haven't hunted it but I like the look of the area out north and east from Rabbit mountain on down to Rocky Creek as the road comes east up out of the Aladdin valley.
If you have a little time stop at the F&W office right there on the road that heading out of Downtown Colville heading East toward Tiger. It might be 3rd st? Anyhow, Might be worth a chat and of course there's a Colville NF office right in town too where you could have a chat about couple year old cuts. We find a lot more scrapes and buck activity on benches, ridge saddles and cut edges than wooded slopes so look in those areas and if they're still hitting scrapes it's not a bad idea to sit on a rub/scrape line. I've not had much luck rattling, but I'd certainly give it a go. I'll be in the area the week before you, different unit. Good luck!

Rattling isn't as effective than as in the early season, but still works. For one, there are only 50 gun toting fellows out there instead of the 5,000 the week before. Those bucks are just hot. You don't even have to move around much, they will do that for you. If you get on a hot doe, stick to her, big boy will get there.

Well i looked at a map and LPOWA is not in that unit so that other fellow was right.I do know a guy whos taken several deer around smackout pass and it is in that unit.I hunted around BON Ayre Valley just north of old dominionand it is in your unit also .If your really into getting a way from the roads.I have always liked the looks of AMBERCROMBIE MTN. just north of IONE. If you go in by mount Baldy up cedar creek you have access to 30 sq miles of mountain with no roads at all.Again thou ive never seen it or know of any body whos hunted there.Just looks intriging on a map......Good luck

Stay close to the valley bottoms with farm fields. That will be your biggest concentrations of deer and bucks will be wherever the does are. They will be at the peak of their rut then. Stop at the DNR or USFS offices in Colville and get some public land maps. Alot of private farm land abuts public in that unit. I'd recommend the Alladin valley on the east side of the road and the mountainous portions around Smackout Pass and Meadow Lake. There are good bucks throughout those areas. Good luck.

A few yrs ago I was camping at Big Meadow Lake watching a moose out in the lake when a couple bucks popped out. One was a nice 4x4 but the other was a huge 5x5 that I would easily score 170 & that's being conservative in my opinion. I've spent some time in the S.E corner of that lake hitting the brush & there was a lot of buck sign in there but that area is thicker than dog hair in there which them big old Whiteys like. Good luck and show us some dead deer pics.
