My wife is 5'2"and 110# She has shot a 50 cal 300 grain sabot and 100gr of powder no problem. Your boy sounds like he has shot a few rifles so he should be fine with any muzzy you choose for him.

I bought my 8yr old son a CVA Optima for his youth elk hunt. I was worried about the length of pull, but it wasn’t an issue. At 8, he had a tough time free handing it, but very comfortable on shooting sticks. Last year, at 9 years old he free handed his shot on his cow and made a perfect shot. At 10yrs old, he is 5 foot and weighs 90lbs and has grown into the gun even more. He is shooting a 290gr Barnes bullet with 100gr of powder.
