Derrick and partner had a good day of Montana private land whitetail shed hunting last week.

Was going through trail cam photos and thought I would share this photo of wolves at one of our bear baits in Idaho. This year wolf season will be open during spring bear season, we are hoping these wolves come back, one of the hunters might go home with his bear and some wolves? It's an uphill battle, IDFG keeps lengthening wolf seasons, but the wolves keep getting smarter, I'm not sure if we can keep them from increasing in numbers even if there was year round hunting and trapping.

Here are a couple thoughts:

 - How many wolves do you see in the photo?
 - How many wolves are there but not in the photo?

9 in one pic i see?  Most ive got in 1 shot was 6.  But i did get a series of 12 (carpenter ridge pack) running in front of a cam over 7 pics.  This was the profanity peak pack.  Pregnant female in background.

If a guy is going to treestand hunt bear over bait in idaho, your pic is a good argument to use an ar15 with a reflex sight.  .450 bushmaster would be a good choice.  Id aim at this wolf, maybe get 2 with 1 bullet.

I was thinking the same thing with these two.

Unlikely to be there if you were in shotgun range but the two red dots should account for four with a good bullet and caliber, thanks

Today was a good day, a successful trip up the mountain and an estimated 17 Idaho elk saved per year that this wolf will not be eating.

A big old female!

Not from the pack that I posted the photo, but from another pack not too far from there that are hunting the elk winter range hard.

She won't be seeing a dentist in the future either. Already checked in with IDFG and the F4WM cost reimbursement will be put to good use to try and remove additional wolves.

Ive been killing time on the boat watching wolf hunting videos on youtube.  After 40 days at sea im going to get home, sleep in my own bed 1 night, then head to idaho.  Really itching to get out there and give it a shot.
