I've been following this for some time, and it is absolute BS.

The city of Blaine can pound sand.  This isn't a safety issue at all, it's a Noise issue.

“Every year we receive MAYBE HALF A DOZEN inquiries,” said Blaine police sergeant Michael Munden.

The resolution notes that “it is difficult for members of the public to distinguish between incorporated and unincorporated areas particularly on the open water, which causes numerous hunters to inadvertently move into areas where hunting and discharge of firearms is illegal.”

State game warden Dave Jones appeared to disagree with this characterization. “In my 12 years of enforcing here, I’ve never had to address someone who is inside the city limits,” he said. He said he understands why a new resident to the area, who is unfamiliar with hunting, might have concerns about noise and safety. But he said the hunters are a “good crowd” who generally abide by the rules. Often, they are accompanied by professional guides. “No one’s in danger of anything whatsoever, but there’s some noise,” he said. “That’s just a reality.”

I'm not seeing a date for the council meeting, just a time and place. Is it tonight?

I wonder if we had more Dave Jones's in WDFW if we would have lost hounds, bear baits and foothold trapping  :dunno:

This has more to do with an irrational fear of guns and a sense of entitlement than it has to do with hunting. These people don't think anyone should be able to disturb the peace of their oceanfront homes, regardless if it's an exercise of legal activity. I can almost guarantee the complainers are donating members of Anytown USA. Attack anything that has to do with guns.

It's not a gun issue at all IMO.  As stated by the BPD, they only get up to 6 calls a year.

It's the city of Blaine having a noise issue.  This town has been dead for years and is slowly starting to come back to life.  It's one of the few affordable areas left in Whatcom County to buy a home.
I think the city is afraid the noise will push new home buyers and developers away.
