Until the industry gets smart and settles on one universal charging station, and the technology for fast charging is found, and they are as common as gas pumps, electric will always be a limited commodity and a novelty.

Did they ever resolve the issues with those 6x6s?  They were somewhat unstable and would roll on turns/speeds that 4x4s could handle.  Figure they just need some traction control adjustments?

What's the advantage of that over a dually anyway? Seems.ocerly complicated but I'm no engineer, I'm not even very smart.

The answer to electric vehicles is battery cassettes and swap stations, kinda like swapping propane tanks, but fully automated.

Drive up to a station your battery pops out the side, robot grabs it and loads a charged cassette, you pay automatically via an app or something.

Take less than a minute and you don't even have to get out of the car.

The stations could even be mobile like a garbage truck but full of battery cassettes.

EVs are really taking off.  They make a ton of sense in so many ways for a huge portion of the driving that is done every day.  For trucks, yeah, hunting up in the woods or towing a sideways skyscraper down the road is a problem for sure.  But, probably 95% of the miles on trucks is someone driving it to work and the grocery store, so there is always that.

Batteries continue to get better, I'm sure there will be a next generation from somewhere.  I just bought one of the battery pack jump starters for my daughter after thinking they were a big joke.  Man, they pack a ton of energy into a tiny footprint.

For sure, I wouldn't miss a radiator, water pump, belts and hoses, transmission, oil changes, fuel pumps, fuel filters and all the fun stuff that goes with IC engines.

Yeah, the Cyber Truck is a bad joke, but the thing with pushing the boundaries is you have a bunch of failures and he is one of the few willing to take big risks, financed with a bunch of his own money to boot.

My brother has been looking at some eletric motor bikes. You can get a 250cc equivilant that will go 50 miles on a charge 40mph for around $3k. When the new batteries come out made of silicate, they will be awesome.

I was talking to my SPU engineer yesterday and he was talking about all the issues the electric vehicles in their fleet were having with the cold. Sounds like they were seeing battery life cut in half, says it happens every winter.

Yeah, most EVs have battery heaters, but that takes energy too.  Almost all batteries aren't happy in the cold, we just replaced my daughter's battery yesterday that was fine until we got that tiny bit of cold temp and that was enough to kill it.

I think there is so much politics that bleed over into automotive that some real viable solutions (at least short term), like small gas generators are not being considered.  A tiny Honda generator could run everything in the car or battery heaters and extend the range or provide emergency charging.  There are a ton of YouTubes where people are trying to come up with an "electric gas can" where you can pack emergency power like you would with a jerry can of gas.  It isn't easy currently.

Nobody wants a gas generator exhaust pipe sticking out of their EV even if it means more of them would be sold and driven.

I am just waiting for the Electric truck road hunter edition.  They are already going to be super quiet just need some felt covered tires and gun ports!  Mount solar panels in the bed and on the roof and crawl around the roads all day long!!
