I like to hang my call in a tree and stab my decoy in above it and play bird sounds

its an icotec decoy  PD200

like 40 bux, but the AUX works with my foxpro

I stab the stake into the tree, its on the right side it comes off then screws into the base then you stab it into the ground (or tree) the stake is aluminium so you gotta be careful with it.
I might make a metal one better for stabbing trees

uploading that vid to youtube so you can see how it spins when it's sideways like that.  I wasn't actually calling bobcats in this video, this was a bear stand that nothing showed up too.

Has anybody here had repeated success specifically targeting bobcat via calling?  Whats your m.o?  How long on average til you get a response?  .22wmr should be adequate id think, yeah? As far as i know ive only called in one, and it busted me.  But ive never actually tried to target them.  Im about to go for it.  Words of wisdom would be much appreciated.

Yes.

To target bobcats I set up quite a different ambush than for canines. Every time a bobcat responds to your call, think about how it approached and let them teach you what they prefer.  Set up to take advantage of that.  Walking a circle in snow after a calling stand can teach a lot about calling cats

Shortest call-in was a minute and a half, longest was 52 minutes.  I stayed that long only because I saw him slowly approaching.  I prefer to stay 45 minutes for bobs.  Have had several appear in the 12-14 minute range.

22wmr seems perfect for bobcats.

A majority will probably sneak in except for the ones that run up to you full speed or the ones that casually stroll in. :)

Sounds that have called bobcats for me are cottontail distress, deeper raspier jackrabbit distress, fawn bleats, woodpecker distress (my first choice for bobs) cougar vocals (no idea whey they come but they do), bobcat in heat, housecat distress, and had one come in when I was rattling for whitetails.

I like to start with distress, probably woodpecker or cottontail, and switch to bobcat in heat for a few seconds every 1-3 minutes. Rapid, frenetic, higher pitched busy sounds produce well.

You are a savvy caller and will get good at bobcats.

I've contemplated taking one of my cackling hens out  with me.    :chuckle:
This ain’t a bad idea. We lost our last hen about a month ago and I’m fairly sure it was a bobcat.

Rainshadow is a good bobcat caller.  He might share more than my cryptic info! :)

Also Utah published a study showing that a majority of mule deer deaths were due to bobcats. And if you want I saw 3 bobs on Sherman tonight, pm me your number and I can send you the OnX pin of where they were. There was a solid looking trail. I’ve got all my traps out a lot closer to home right now so I don’t wanna put one up there yet.
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

good info' posted above.

I have called in 2 bobcats in the Blues.  Both times I was using a FoxPro with deer or goat distress sounds.
I was having so much fun watching the first one walk and then sneak a little, then walk then sneak That all of a sudden I realized it was only 8 or 10 feet from the call.  About 30 yard shot.

The 2nd one came in and sat down about 40 yards from the caller.  Easy shot also.

Both time the caller was set in an open rocky flat area.
It never changes, but it is always different.

Re bobcat predation on deer:

Went to hear a biologist in Port Angeles a few months ago who is doing a multi-year study on blacktail deer and cougars.

The biologist said that they started out to study cougar kills of deer but ran into so many bobcats and bobcat kills that they had to expand their study to include bobcats.  Over the four years for which they have compiled deer mortality, my rough average of their data showed that bobcats killed on average about 1/3 as many deer as cougars did.

In the highest bobcat kill year, bobcats killed as many deer as cougars.  In the low year, they killed 20% as many.

They had at least 27 cougars and 160 bobcats in the area studied (west of Port Angeles) so the deer kills per bobcat are much lower, but total kills make bobcats a major predator on blacktail deer.

I’ve called in many yet have only seen one of them and it was as he left.   Called on in to 20’ from me and never seen it.  Just tracks in the snow.
