Sat on a trap today
« on: January 01, 2020, 05:46:51 PM »
Oh man, sure made me feel stupid!  Decided to have a seat and a drink of water today.  Saw a likely spot under a tree where the snow hadnt piled up.  Saw a little hole at the base of the tree, should have known it was a dirt hole set.  Lucky for me, i threw my pack on the ground and sat on my pack, so the (wolf?) trap bit my pack and not my ass.  It was rusty, looked pretty old, but who knows.  If it wasnt an old long forgotten trap, i hope the trapper understands that his trap was sprung through ignorance, not intentional mischief.

Washington outlawed these traps for 2 reasons.

1:  theyre an effective means of predator management

2: wdfw sets their game management policies based off of the feelings of bleeding heart idiots that learned everything they know about wildlife by watching massively biased and agenda driven  tv documentaries that show a disneyesque view of nature and anthropomorphize the hell out of all animals, but predators even more so.

Did you see any wolf tracks leading up to the trap?  I have a friend on Trapperman that mentioned he had a sprung trap.  Said he followed in some wolf tracks and then had someones' tracks walking in.  Do you wear muck boots?

I bet that was quite a surprise! What crazy odds. Colvilles are allowed to use them in all of Ferry county too so watch the trees you sit under over here!
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

Was NOT his trap, glad you were not hurt!  That could have been quite painful and awful hard to release yourself, depending on where it caught you when you sat down!!

In Alaska we often used to set a #1 or 1 1/2 long spring trap on a horizontal or diagonal log or branch.  When a friend of mine checked her traps one time, she found a lynx sitting on the trap she had set.  The male lynx hardly moved before she shot him.
