How do you display your Euro mounts?
« on: March 31, 2020, 08:30:10 PM »
I have a few ELK euro mounts and I cant find any hangers that look good to me.  I currently have them on Skull hookers and I don't like the way they hang and how far they stick out from the wall.  What are you using and why?  I really like the way this one looks with the lower jaw attached so I don't think the traditional plaque would work.

Don't know if this would work for an elk skull or not, but I've been meaning to give this a try (or something like it) for deer skulls. I'm too cheap to pay for an official skull hook. I like having the mandibles attached with the skull - makes them look more complete.

Picture wire under the base of each antler to a single screw in hook to a stud. Can hardly notice it, which I like.
Just tend your own and live.

I'm with you. I dont like how far off the wall the skull hookers stick. Dont mind the angle, but not ideal either. I mount mine on plaques. For deer, a 1/4" x 4" lag works great for holding the head. Change the angle of the lag to change the angle of the head. Sometimes they don't sit just so on them so I'll wrap the end of the lag with duct tape a few times. Fixes it right up. Could also put the lag right into a stud and call it good, no plaque.

Just re-read your original post. I did this same technique with my elk euro. A decent 6x. Had to use a much larger lag, but it's been up for a couple years now and 1 earthquake, no problems. No reason you couldn't leave the lower jaw if you wanted, just have to glue it in. I can check what size lag I used tomorrow if you're interested.

I also do not like the Skull Hookers. Made the panel ,then welded a bracket to fit the skull.

 I’ve  been stalling (way to long) on putting up my buck euro “until I do it right”. It’s going up today. Thanks.

I’ve got a couple of these and they are very sturdy/invisible.  Apparently unavailable, but the design is money

Next to the garage door so I run a piece of wire through the skull to keep from falling
