The SWFA scopes are supposed to be good for dialing, and about the best scope made for the money. The 3-15x42 is $700.

If you can live with 14 power the Leupold VX-3i 4.5-14 for $750 is in your range.

You can probably find a good lightly used VX 5 HD in that price range if you're patient.

I’m getting leery of used scopes with dials now.  Used to be if they worked they worked but now dial wear is a concern.   Scopes without dialing never wore out. Now how many times can you dial that turret before wear or slop develops? Seeing scopes that are fine even with factory inspection but will no longer group at 600 or 1000 yards like a different scope does.    Some comp guys are selling every two years cuz they know its wearing.  I don’t want to be the buyer.

When old eyes come into the equation, for most guys I know, second focal plane is the only way to go.  So in your scope search, you may want to keep that in mind unless you have played with ffp and are good to go.  Also, scope weight can be anywhere from 22 ounces to 2lb, so theres another thing.

Several older guys I shoot with and myself are all having good luck with Vortex PST Gen 2.  I have 2 of them 5-25x50 after having 2 NF's and still running another Leupold, and having had the opportunity to shoot Steiner, Schmitty B, SWFA, Zeiss and others, I take a lot into consideration before I buy scopes.

In the end, look at as many as you can before getting one you intend to dial all the time.

 :yeah:

I forgot where I bought mine, but I think he was a semi-retired guy that was selling stuff at a much smaller markup.  They are even on Amazon from time to time but I would likely be very, very careful there.

I think I paid $750 or so for mine new, I'll try to find the receipt and website.

Why the firedot?  Just curious, always preferred the duplex.

VX5 HD 3-15x44 with Windplex reticle can be found for under $800 from time to time. I believe I paid $763 or so for one last year for my dad unless you know someone that works at Bass Pro/ Cabela's; you can get one around $600.
