mystery ranch terraframe packs
« on: April 25, 2020, 12:16:25 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has ever used a mystery ranch terraframe for hunting? They seem to have similar style frames as the Metcalf but I found one on REI.com for $200(50% off on sale). Its less than half the price of the Metcalf and just curious if it will handle in a similar fashion.

I have older Dana Designs Terraplane 80, which is the same bag, but different frame.  It works well and did a lot of backpacking with it.  It looks like the Terraframe 80 is no longer in stock but it still has the 65 and 50 3-zip (I think that was the one you were referring to).  I didn't know that they featured the load carrying option!

I just bought a Mystery Ranch Glacier from Sierra Trading Post a couple seasons ago for $150...it does NOT have the load carrying option like the Terraframe.  I wish it did.

I would recommend any of the Mystery Ranch packs, and I'm positive that it would work well for hunting.

I appreciate the feedback 444Marlin. I pulled the trigger on the 50 3 zip. Im excited tip see how it handles.  In this world of $600 backpacks I have to make a few concessions.

I was just looking at them on the Mystery Ranch website.  Under the questions it states the 'Back Strap' accessory will work with it too- since it's the same Mt. Light Frame.  I imagine you can get some of the other bags by themselves that would fit.

Now you got me thinking about getting one.  It's a darn good deal!

It's a great deal for sure.  From what I can tell, the Terraframe that's up at REI is the previous gen with the Guide Light frame -- the 2019+ packs on MR's website are on the new Guide Light MT frame.

I opted for the Sawtooth, but I can't say I'm not second-guessing my decision...

Man if i can find a MRTP in a large under $400 I'd be all over it. As long as it has the load shelf.   Thanks for the heads up..

Check out Sierra Trading Post on line.  They have several options for about $230.
