Pellet guns?
« on: June 14, 2020, 07:06:10 PM »
I'm in the market for a new pellet rifle, are there really any quiet ones out there? Any recommendations ? I currently shoot a very nice RWS but it's pretty loud. Thanks in advance .

I have a Umarex Torq that is pretty quiet.  Once I finally found a pellet that it likes, it is very accurate out to about 60 yards.

A bit of hijacking here, what is accurate?  At 20 and 60 yards, what group can you get with the Torq?

20 yards, a ragged hole, 60 yards about a 3" group.  That is shooting the Gamo Red Fire pellets.  They are the only ones that shot to my standards out of about 7 different pellets.  Mine is the .177cal, not the .22 also

Also hijacking, I've not found a quiet pellet rifle. I now use Aguila 22 Colibrí / Long Rifle Subsonic Powderless Lead Bullet or super Colibri. All you hear is the hammer drop.

I have a Gamo Whisper, I can shoot all day, my neighbors would have no clue I was shooting a pellet rifle.
It has been a great rifle.

My neighbors are A-OK, they shoot some themselves.  It's my family and what's in the frying pan for dinner I'm working on.

I have a benjamin NP2 break barrel in .22 cal.  It has a shrouded barrel and built in "suppressor".  It's pretty quiet.

I've heard that some of the PCP air rifles are VERY quiet.  Benjamin Marauder in .22 cal or .25 cal is a popular entry level one for about $500.  I don't have one.....yet....

What pellets have you found work for it best?  I think that is what I have and basic lead pellets have not been shooting well out of it.  Seems some places say you need to shoot pellet guns clean (get mfg oil etc out) before they start working well.  I have probably 30-40rnd thru mine and it is just all over the place.

The PCP’s are the way to go for quite and accurate and no recoil. Sub 2” groups at 100 yards should be expected. Looks up some YouTube videos. I don’t have one yet but they sure are impressive and you can get them full auto if want to.

I have the gamo whisper 10x 22 cal.  bought it a few weeks ago.  it is pretty accurate just plinking around.  i haven't actually set up to shoot paper, but will soon.  I only paid 140 bucks for it at Bi Mart.  well worth the money!!
my priority has been trying to find ammo for my 22-250 i just bought so i can go get some coyotes.

Benjamin Fortitude is extremely quiet and accurate.
https://www.airgundepot.com/benjamin-fortitude-air-rifle.html

I wish it came in a .25 caliber.  If they come out with one, I'll own another!
Trigger leaves a little to be desired but the fix is easily found on youtube and easily performed.  The ambidextrous stock is a little thicker in the grip than I prefer but it's not excessive.

Trigger Mod.  I put a slight bend in the hammer spring per the videos and changed that stiff trigger return spring to one taken from a ball point pen.  I don't think I added the two screws to the back of the trigger group but may have.  I'd have to pull it apart to verify.  Here's one of the videos...No extra charge for the smoky sexy voice...  :chuckle:

Will they kill racoons?
Yes.  But I prefer the .25 for raccoons.
