Huckleberry moose cow tag
« on: June 15, 2020, 06:14:53 PM »
I got lucky enough to draw a cow moose tag in the huckleberry 121 unit. I plan on scouting and getting to know the area as much as I can this summer before school starts back up in August. I have never been in this area before let alone ever seen a moose before so any tips on where to start looking or what timber lands are worth checking out would be much appreciated as well as any basic info on moose hunting such as what kind or terrain they like and any calling methods/ types of calls or any little bit of info on moose hunting. Thank you

Most places in 121 are good for Moose.  North of the reservation, west of Waitts Lake, Addy and Colville.  Can't really go wrong in this unit.  Good luck and let me know if ya need a hand or extra packer!
God made man, Samuel Colt made them equal.

For a cow moose, calling is not really necessary.  Similar to elk, if you find the food you find the cows.

Congrats on a real freezer filler. I wish these tags didn't exist right now but I'm happy for you just the same.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

I know what you mean. I got the tag and am super excited about it. Because with the way things are going, this will probably be the only moose hunt I get to go on in my life. But at the same time. I hate the idea of taking a cow moose and really wondering why WDFW decided to put out 10 antlerless tags for GMU121. Are there really that many moose in this area? I am starting to think that's the reason, because of how many people are saying it's a easy tag to fill. Or is it more the wolf's are going to wipe them out so might as well let some hunters get some. But I can't see WDFW thinking like that. I want to talk to the Bio for the area, wondering if there's a specific reason for so many cow tags for the area this year. Like a problem in a area, or some samples they want or something....

I know how hard of a tag this is to draw, and feel super luck, and am super excited. But it's a mixed feeling.
