Just got back from the range.  Rifle shoots pretty good with factory ammo.  Today was a sight in day and break in day.  It appears to really like the nosler factory ammo 180 grain accubond.  The last four rounds were 3/4-1Ē with my son shooting.  I decided to go with a brake vs the 30 cal can just due to balance issues.  The rifle is so stupid lite that the can really through it off balance.  It also made it heavier and my son had a harder time with the extra weight and length.

Tomorrow I will be shooting it again and working on ballistics for the scope.  If itís not raining so hard I will take pics of the target to share.  I canít wait for this winter when I can work a custom load.   Right now I need to get it running for my boy to whack a bear and maybe an elk.

Tomorrow 13 -17mph winds, gusts to 26 here, make it tough to get that .308 dialed tight, we'll see.

I say we keep it all in one thread so it is easy to find for others.   Iím headed back out today to do a little more shooting.   I will also be updating with results as time passes and rounds go down range.   I am still waiting for a resolution from savage or the retailer I purchased mine from....it didnít come with the additional stock pieces and I need to raise the comb and shorten the LOP for my son.   Hopefully this gets rectified quickly.

I cant pm you, but if you need any stock pieces aside from the highest comb piece, i can send em your way.

so i was initially pretty disappointed with this gun, after both of my savage model 16 lightweight hunters shooting 1/2 - 1/4 moa easily at 200 yards with factory ammo.  Expected the same from the 110 ultralite.  First 6-8 types of factory ammo i tried through it werent worth a damn.  Thats including low to high end stuff.  After thinking i should sell the gun or rebarrel it i took my old mans advice and tried sierra gamechangers.  Didnt expect much, but that made the difference between a gun i needed to get rid of, and a gun i will take hunting.  Really, realistically pretty good groups for a hunting rifle with a 1-8 scope.  But damned if i can find anything else it can shoot worth a damn.  This is what its doing for 4 shot groups (4 round mag).  If youre going to buy a .308 savage ultralite, i highly suggest you pay the money for a box of 165gr sierra game changers.  Its the only thing my gun will shoot.

For comparison i shot one 4 shot group today with my 16 lightweight hunter .308 (discontinued model) that i havent shot in over a year.  It likes the 165 grain superformance gmx.  3-9◊33 scope.  This is the 4 shot group.  The one flier i feel is my fault not the guns.  I think the 16 LWH is just a better gun all around (i own two) but it just doesnt have the adjustable stock or threaded barrel.  For anybody looking for an extremely lightweight accurate gun, if you can find a 16LWH id snatch it up.  :twocents:

And this was 4 shots at 200 yards with my 16 LWH .243 on the day i was sighting it in. 2-7◊33 scope.  95 grain federal fusion = 1/8th moa, go figure  :dunno:

Joining the party,....just got a 6.5 Creed for my kid.

Spend about 2 hours.  Tested out ammo with 3 shot groups, 15 minutes apart, after a good initial break-in following proof's instructions.

I also initially torqued down the action to just snug on the front bolt, then pounded the stock on the ground a bit to seat the recoil lug, then tightened down to 10 in/lb.  Then another pounding, then the back to 10 in/lb.  Then the front to 35 in/lb then the back to 30 in/lb.  Not sure if that helps or not, but read up a bunch on it.  Seems like you need to make sure that lug is seated.

Hornady ELDX 143 were the winner, they shot .5 MOA consistently.

Federal Terminal Ascent 130 were the loser, they were about 1.5"

Nosler Accubond LR 142 shot 2 in the same hole almost exactly, i'd put it at .1" MOA, but had 1 1" flier.  Could have been me, I didn't shoot another group.  Overall 1" MOA

Exact same thing with the Federal Berger Hybrid 135.  2 .25" with a 1" flier on third shot.  Same could have been me but didn't shoot another group.  Overall 1" MOA

I had Hornady 129 SST to try too, but didn't want to try those as I like the ELDX.

After all of this, shot 1 ELDX for final sight in.

Waited 15 minutes, shot 1 more.  Waited 15 minutes shot 1 more.  All sub .5" again.

This has been probably my best shooting factory gun, my first savage, and am very happy!  I'd highly recommend this gun.

Though I don't know how you all can shoot anything hitting harder than a 308 out of an ultralight setup like this!

Savage made right by the missing parts.  Finally shortened the LOP and put a comb riser so it fits my boy.  Mine shoots factory nosler accubonds and nosler monolithics the best.  I will be reloading so Iím not overly concerned with factory performance but for my sons deer tag this year he will be shooting the accubonds.

With a muzzle brake the 300wsm is pretty tame and fun to shoot.

Nowhere online can i find a spare magazine for this rifle.  Even on savsges website none of the pictures match.  Ive emailed their support twice and they have not responded.  Anybody have a clue about a part number or where i can get one?  Short action.

I bought two for my 300wsm off of gunmag.com.  They are the new savage axis mags.

https://gunmagwarehouse.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=savage%20axis

I don't see one for the 308.  but hopefully looking for the new axis mag helps in your search.
