Savage Model 99 Stock Repair
« on: January 18, 2021, 10:33:49 AM »
Good morning,

I have an old Savage Model 99 that has a cracked stock. Does anyone know of a stock repair person in Washington state who might be able to repair it, or else install a new/old stock?

Thank you,
Cliff

Look for mark novak's anvil series on you tube. He is a long way from us, but his series may give you an idea whether the person you find knows what he is doing. He is from Charleston

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I'm familiar with Novak on YT. And I'll check out the link.

Quick search of "savage 99 stock" on ebay produced some results. GunBroker might have some too. Plus, I could look up some other sources.

A million years ago I fixed a savage 99 with a new wood stock from Boyd’s. Not sure if they still have them.

I think the usual fix is to epoxy it back together and install pins to keep it from cracking again. I’ve been lucky, none of mine have the tang crack...yet.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Thanks guys, I appreciate your help and the heads up on some things. Parasite (what a handle!) I have been watching ebay, seeing plenty of forearms but few buttstocks. And I would rather repair this stock so that my wood will match. Thanks for the help.
