Hoffman boots
« on: February 21, 2021, 12:14:11 PM »
The Hoffman explorer has caught my attention for first real hunting boot. I have always ran Irish setter elk trackers but am looking for something with a stiffer sole for mountain hunting. Anybody run some Hoffman’s??

I have them. Best boot I’ve owned, probably will be my only mountain boot from now on.

Yep, I have the Expolorer 8”. I like them, have 100’s of miles in all terrains and weather so far and no issues, still solid boot with good rand support. Keep them greased up and they’re good to go. I did pull the insole and swapped for super feet Insole. The factory didn’t give me enough cushion on the balls of my feet under heavy load. Break in was quick , did a heavy hike With them out of the box and they were great and only have gotten better.
Just tend your own and live.

My son and i have them both the insulated and non-insulated. Great boot. Barely any break in and perfect amount of stiffness

Oh buddy, those are some expensive boots there.  I just run with danners.  Have always loved them and they last a good long while.

I just bought a pair of the explorer 8" and have one short hike in them and they seem good.. Tired of wearing out a pair of kenetreks in a season so switching it up. Broke in a pair of schnees last year that are insulated and these will be my go to uninsulated boots so will see how they do. If you hunt the rough backcountry and steep stuff theres nothing that compares to good Italian made stiff boots but it can be disappointing when you spend $400 plus only get a year out of them. But a year for some is ten miles and for another is 250 plus.. :chuckle:

I love Hoffman's for hunting and logging. Better than kenetrek, in my opinion.

But they are a stiff boot, especially in the footbed.  Break in was a little longer than any other boot I've worn.
But the longevity is amazing.  Even worn 6 days a week in Southeast Alaska,  logging.

That's all I wear now. I have had most other brands of mtn boot and have settled on hoffman.  They are fantastic

I have a pair.  Was looking for a tall boot with a bob sole and found them with a lightly insulated version.  Even the light insulation has been a tad too warm for the westside late seasons.  They do appear to be much better built then other boots I've got.
