Best hunting preserves wa/or?

Looking for feedback on upland "pheasant or chucker" hunting preserves in oregon and washington. Will need a guide with a dog.
So looking on feedback of some different operations.

Not WA/OR but in Peck, ID is Little Canyon Shooting. I have hunted there once and buy birds from them yearly. They are great people with solid birds. They run GSP’s and have an awesome piece of property.

Have hunted Miller Ranch since it started operation. Class act, professionally run and never been disappointed.

No experience using a guide or their dogs, but Miller Ranch & Double Barrel around Spokane are both great.

We have used Cooke Canyon (and others) for dog training. They are as good as any of the 'preserves', better than a lot of them. Keep in mind ALL of them have pen raised birds, some have bigger runs than others so the birds work better. They take a bunch out and plant them for you. They can 'guide' with a dog as well.
The option we use the majority of the time, is to have them put a bunch in a cage and we plant them ourselves so we have more control over the situation.
For us, the 'preserves' work good to get training dogs on bigger birds (pheasant) before taking them out hunting. We have also used them when we have a dog that does not care for pigeons.

Only WA place I've used was Double Barrel Ranch out near Spokane.  I didn't use their dogs, as I have my own.  Nice place to get some bird practice for my dogs.   I'd say their birds were a little "tame" compared to some other places I've been....fine for my big dumb blonde lab who practically trips over dumb birds but not challenging enough for my GSP.  But could have just been the birds those few days I went.

Otherwise I used the state release sites for my practice, as I lived 15 minutes from one for 7 years....so got there multiple mornings per week prior when I lived there. So didn't have as much of a need for paid preserves while living in WA.


For Oregon:
My favorite for the value is Luckiamute Valley Pheasants

It's west side, southwest of Salem so is different terrain than most pheasant hunting.  But they do a good job with the crops there, and developing the rest of the terrain.  His springers are a lot of fun to hunt over.  It's been awhile since I've been there but same guys running it still.  I will say with their extra large fly pens, they have the "most wild" of released birds I've ever hunted over.   Their policy is to also release some small quantity of hens from time to time, can't shoot them (roosters only) and good training for your dogs to learn to leave them alone (simulating more of a wild bird hunt experience), and they have a native population of pheasants now as well because of it in the neighboring area. 


There was a place in Tygh Valley (just across the border to the south of you) that I really liked also, but looks like it perhaps has changed hands and that location is run by White River Outfitters now so can't comment on the new ownership.  I did like the terrain there though.  Previously it was nice as they'd let me come up solo with my dog, unlike many places that requires a minimum number of hunters or birds (with the birds be 2x the amount required there).  Again don't know much about White River Outfitters that operate out of there now.


There are some big-time pheasant ranches in Oregon like Highland Hills (Orvis endorsed lodge of the year) but those are outside my price range of what I'm willing to spend.   Supposed to be really nice though.  Just depends on your budget.


Ruggs Ranch is supposed to be very good as well on the upper end of the price scale, and I do hope to try that some year.  Both my dogs are "retired" so once I get a new GSP will plan to hit Ruggs one year.

Just returned from our weekend trip to Oregon. Had a great time with friends and the owner of the Olex preserve south of Arlington, Or. No frills, but in a beautiful setting along Rock creek. Went there to give grief to buddies and kill a lot of birds, which happened.
