Multi Season deer tag strategies
« on: April 14, 2021, 04:26:29 PM »
This is the first time I have drawn the multi season deer tag. What are the basic strategies? Apply for a 2nd deer and points only for the rest of the special hunts?
I am primarily a muzzleloader/rifle hunter but I am now going to broaden my horizons and try bow hunting for the first time. Thanks, -253shotgunner

My strategy for multi deer is typically this:

1) Apply for quality tags in multiple weapon types
2) Still don’t draw
3) Pass up a bunch of little bucks during early archery and muzz
4) Hunt other states during rifle
5) Eat tag

Apply for any special hunt you want, still wont draw

Hunt some denser areas, or areas you know the deer patterns really well for early archery

Go after big muleys during the rifle season

Tag out in the lowlands where you dont need to hike as far during late archery when they move down to winter and get super visible

What country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.

I started buying the Multi-Season deer just to hunt with my Son years back when I was bow hunting but he was hunting rifle deer.
Since then I just like to have the Multi-season to allow for applying in different areas seasons.

I enjoy having the option for additional days in the field while being legal if I stumble into a nice deer. I have scouted for Elk in new areas while hunting for deer during the modern season. Also allows more areas for the late archery/muzzle seasons.

mainly just like the additional options and time.
In God we trust, all others bring cash.

Do not say, Why were the old days better than these? For it is not wise to ask such questions.

I mainly go for MS tags to apply in different categories in the permit apps. I burned my Q pts last year though so I will just buy a left over in August to hunt more. I usually hold out through modern general for a good buck then meat hunt the late seasons. Apply for rut hunts in units you know for ML/rifle, get your points in, don't ghost. Hopefully you gotta few. Good luck! Have fun learning archery!

Hunt your ass off, apply for as many hunts as you can, maybe you draw maybe you don’t, but multi season will give you different opportunities!!

Plan A: Walk around the woods with a bow and shoot a deer.
Plan B: Walk around the woods with a rifle and shoot a deer.
Plan C: Walk around the woods with a muzzleloader and shoot a deer.

Oh hell, who am I kidding. I'll drive around the woods! :chuckle:

I will get a regular tag and apply for the permit i want, and then when i dont draw i will buy the multi tag. With the multi tag ill try for a big deer and likely fill it on a mediocre deer later in rifle or late archery season.

That’s pretty much the strategy. Apply for wep type permits you don’t normally hunt, don’t draw, go hunt your normal hunt.
