Wanted: old trail 70/90/110, atc, etc project for my kids
« on: April 15, 2021, 07:54:42 AM »
Hey folks, currently looking for a older bike project that the kids can help me with this summer. Looking for older bikes mopeds atc quads that need help but donít have all the electronics that newer bikes have. Looking to teach my kids the basics the way I learned on my old Elsinore. Let me know, looking for stuff thatís at least complete or all/most parts are there. Titles not necessary, reinvesting my stimulus towards wrenching with the kids!!

Thanks!

Edit: willing to spend up to $800 for the right project

I donít have one but good job teaching old mechanics. Carb tuning is a dying art. My 70 Datsun had 2 of them 😂

Would you be interested in a Suzuki TC90, under 1k original miles, in excellent condition? It ran last I knew, but has been sitting for several years. Itís not froze up.

88,

I have a old Trail 90 sitting out back.
It has been covered but not run in 15 years.
I used it for elk/deer hunting and it ran great when I parked it.
Everything's there although it has a camo paint job.
Also, the seat is in need of some Duct tape, but what aint?
I live n Enumclaw, so it's not to far from you.

Give me a call at (425) 894-3330.
I will ask my wife where the title is and look around for the key.
As for cost, you tell me what's fair if you look at it.
I'm home most all weekend and afternoons.

I just had shoulder surgery and cannot help you load it if you decide to take it.

Rob.

Thanks Iím not the best mechanic, but wrenching is definitely going away and I want my kids to just understand the basics and how a little work can be worth something.

What might be fun to work on is something with a small engine. Like a briggs and Stratton, Tecumseh etc.

Go to an estate sale and find an old generator, welder, snow blower, a water pump. A shed find, and get it running again. It'll have all the basic stuff to do. Take the carb apart and clean, pull the spark plug out and check for spark, maybe put a new pull rope on it, fuel lines.

This past winter I got an old Craftsmen snowblower from the 70's with a tecumseh motor going again. To my shock I was able to buy a brand new carb off Amazon for under $20. I bought an old Lincoln welder at auction for $100 and got that going another time. Horizontal shaft 7hp B&S motors like what are on most wheelines are a specialty of mine. Another time I bought an old 1960/70 water pump for $35 from an estate sale with a small B&S motor on it. I had a spare motor laying around and I was able to make one good motor from two to get that going again

Fun Times!

I have a 3.5 2 stroke off a FlyMo lawn mower that was run empty and pulled off that has been sitting in my shop for 30 years you can have if that would be of interest to you. Two strokes are easier to work on for sure. Magneto ignition. It is set up vert but turn the carb and it is horiz.
