St Andrews 2nd deer tag
« on: July 18, 2021, 12:44:27 PM »
Got a 2nd doe tag for St Andrews unit. Wasted 12 points trying to get desert unit. Would have been cheaper to just drive to Montana and buy one over the counter and do it in one year instead of 12. live and learn. lol. Will be my last time to put in for 2nd deer category. Anyway I've hunted all around this unit but never in it. I was thinking there would be quite of few farms that would like a doe taken. Any thoughts?

You can always return the permit and get your points back if you arent interested in hunting there.

not sure if you need to worry about getting permission to hunt on privet land there is alittle feel free to hunt,  blm, and state land, get onx app on your phone. hunt the state land that is near the winter wheat fields should be able to put a hole in one. me and my son had it 5 years ago and doubled up in one day. we could of just been lucky or we were at the right place at the right time. either way that's what i would do good luck.

They can only be used on a doe tag.
Use them or lose them.

You will find that 99% of the farms WILL NOT give access, even if you have a doe tag. Best bet is to find the state land and punch a fat doe.  This should be a pretty easy tag to fill.

yes and no. Land owner access in that area is tough so start calling now.

No, with the amount of private it's difficult. I took a doe on an adjacent unit several years back and was lucky. OnX is your friend. Pay the $ and go for a drive to check it out.

there is a lot of public land but some of it burned up last year like Chester butte and some areas around Saint Andrews grange area. however there were still deer in that area last year. get onX and you will see the areas that are open to public. hunt those spots that are near green fall wheat, or have water. most of the deer up there get pushed or travel all the time. i rarely see the same deer in the same area in a week. bring good optics. find a hill and start spotting.

went to st andrews unit last week of bow season to scout. I didn't have any issues getting permission to private property for the 2nd deer tag. I don't know? Maybe i'm such a nice guy. LOL
