Youth points question

Hey I’m wondering if the points accumulated by a youth hunter roll over somehow when they age out or do they just disappear? Not really a big deal but might make a difference when he is older what hunts we will submit for

No rollover.  They keep the points, but can't ever apply or use them once they age out.  My daughter's account shows all her youth point and she's 18 now.

No they don't.... but they could have been acquiring adult points at the same time as youth as long as they paid for the point.

Yeah, no reason to only apply for youth hunts. Especially as cheap as the applications are for those under the age of 16.

Oh for sure I am definitely applying for adult points at the same time. Actually considering getting my daughter, soon to be 6, to do hunters-Ed just so she can start applying for points from an earlier age even if she doesn’t hunt for a few more years. Just wasn’t sure cause his last year I won’t waste money on youth points. To be clear they are a youth until 16 is that correct?

Just so you know.... If it hasn't changed, you could purchase points for kids even without them having their hunters ID yet, just don't put in. Get them a WILD ID crab license and you have that part done.  Others who have looked into it more recently can confirm, but people used to start buying points at birth for kids.

Really?? I would be súper into this if true. So I can buy points for them just can’t purchase tags or submit for the actual draw? Oh man I wish I had known that

I believe that has changed and is no longer allowed. I think the new rules state that they have to have gone through hunter education in order to purchase the applications. This was a recent change as of a few years ago. I don't have the ability to site it right now, hopefully someone else has it handy and can post it up.

Don't quote me,  but I think they changed that a few years ago. I think they have to be eligible to hunt now (Hunter safety).

I think I have youth points on my account, even though I'm far from a youth, and senior points even though I'm not even close yet. So yeah, it's use 'em or lose 'em.

No they don't roll over.

You have to pass hunter ed now to apply for permits or earn points.

Youth until 16 but not a youth once 16.  If your youth turns 16 before September when the seasons start you can still buy the application when they are 15, put them in for the hunt, draw the hunt even if 16 at drawing point and hunt on a youth tag even though they technically aren't a youth anymore.

You never could apply for permits/build points for deer and elk, for kids who hasn't completed hunter education. However, you could build points for moose, sheep, and mountain goat, since for those species no hunting license is required. But they did change that a few years ago so even for those a person needs to be eligible to hunt in order to apply for a point. My daughter who is 15 now, did hunter education at 12 years old, yet she has 13 moose points, but only 4 for quality deer and elk.
