Great story and bear! Way to stick with it.

Beautiful. Congratulations on a great bear, and on a hunt you probably won't forget anytime soon.

:rockin:  Congratulations on a fine bear. I have to say thanks for doing everything you could to find that bear. Im sure there would be a lot of people that would of given up on that bear. Just out of curiosity how far did the bear go after you shot it?
It's not the size of the trophy that make's it a trophy.

The meat I think will be fine. I have recovered 2 other bears (one was mine, one was my brothers) that were shot and left over night. Both were fine, meat wise, and this was in the summer (although I dont recommend this by any means).

I believe 99% of his meat will be fine as well. Its been cool out.
Thanks for all the grats. Tracking is half the fun for me, even though, I prefer more sign!

Rasbo, I think in the first thread on the hit of the bear, you said you thought I might of hit low (and you asked where I got him in this one)...you were correct. I shot him low in the center mass, not sure why...nerves I guess? I checked the gun not long ago at the range and everything was fine...of course that is 'at the range' on a table. I am going to continue to work on my shooting with this weapon. In retrospect I should have laid my gun on the stump I was standing by to steady the shot, but I shot freehand, as I normally do.

The gun used was a .300 WSM with a 165 grain bullet...I will update the story to include this.
it sounded like a bear I shot same thing, went for the heart hit low, found a chunk of jerky sized meat, long time to find that one

Great bear and story. As you said "we owe it to the animal torecover them". You definatly did him justice by finding him even though you probably wanted to give up at times. Good job. You should be proud!

CONGRATS on a great bear...and kudos to you for sticking with it and making every effort to recover the bear after it was hit.

Awesome, Awesome Bear, I hope that takes the sting out of the vehicle damage you got from the motorcycle kids.  That is one fine bear.  I can't wait to see the rug when it's done.  :whoo:

I am so glad you found your bear. I have had to recover a couple bears the day after the shot. It is never fun but sure rewarding to succeed. The bear I shot in SE AK was not dead when I found him the next day and required some follow up shots from my 45 Colt revolver. That was a bit hairy but fortunately I got him in the end. Good job on your hunt and follow up, Brian.

Well its already all been said.  You've got my respect & I've never met ya.  You are what I call a hunter.  Course coming from Stanwood dosen't hurt either.  Get some rest, run a patch thru the rifle & get a 2d tag, 1 Aug is a com'in.
