What's Going On !!!

Had an old legal buck (the wife had her eyes on to fill her modern tag) shed his antlers before the season even started. We laughed  that he out foxed us so he would not get shot. So today we see another legal one that has shed half of his rack. If this keeps up the only bucks I see during the muzzle loader season will be balled ones. Can I blame it on Global Warming? Everything else gets blamed for that. Any thoughts?

Old is what we thought on the first one, 5 1/2-6 yr old, but the second one 2 1/2- 3 yr old. Don't appear to be sick, all the deer seem to be above average weight and in good condition. The deer the wife harvested was 25 lbs above the normal average weight for our area.

At least you know a couple will make it through the hunting season and hopefully hold on to their antlers long enough next year to be shot.     You need to take up bow hunting so you can whack them before they loose their antlers.

I saw this a couple years ago in Douglas county.  Saw a nice 4 pt during muzzy season, during rifle season it only had one horn and when it got shot the other horn popped off.  Saw several one horned deer running around that year.  This year its velvet...have seen a lot of bucks still in velvet or not completely rubbed.  Odd.

Did you see the antler?  I wonder if they were shed or you just happened upon a rowdy section of the woods.

We have cameras so we watch what is going on. The older buck started out breaking off all but about 5" on one side. Then he shed the other side off. A couple days later  he sheds the stub.

Here is a pic of the young one. Obviously the old one is hard to tell being bald unless he raises his leg.

Here today gone today. Took this picture this morning, this afternoon they are both bald.
