Malaga Antlerless
« on: November 26, 2021, 04:30:51 PM »
The kid and I are headed out tomorrow so she can try to fill her tag, first elk. We were hoping for more snow but ran out of patience. Any one been thru there and seen any small groups? Our plan was to hit the big draws on east side…..

They are down and causing havoc in the orchards as we speak. Shouldn’t have an issue finding one. Good luck

I have that tag as well and haven't been able to make it out there yet.  When my daughter drew the youth tag a few years ago we hunted around the top of Kingsbury and over towards Colockum Rd.

Vandeman- When you talk about down in the orchards are you talking about down near Scroggie?  I thought most of the area near orchards was all private?

No just past Malaga I have a few clients who are cherry growers. The elk wreck their trees every winter

Ok.

Is there even access out the Tarpiscan anymore or is that still gated?

Mostly gates but I have friends out there with a big herd on their property. I think they are out of town this weekend but I can see if they can give me an update on where the elk are at

Anyone having any luck?   I found some fresh tracks in the snow yesterday but couldn’t catch up to them.  Mostly just seeing some jacknob taking his side by side down every single closed road.

A herd of 40-50 up on the hillside south of Malaga not quite to Tarpiscan.

Up on Columbia River Ranch or Ravenwing?

I heard there were some elk up on the state land that was part of a land swap with Ravenwing but there have been trucks parked at the bottom every day.  I guess I need to get up earlier.  Never saw anyone packing anything out though either.

As far as I know there is no access to the state from the public land. Anyway check out from tarpiscon north to the end of the pavement at the game dept house (take a left at the clockum pass Y) not sure on road name.

There didn’t use to be access and the state land was checkerboarded up there but evidently the Ravenwing Ranch and the state did a land swap.  Now there is a band of state land through the middle of Ravenwing  that touches the Colockum Pass Rd.  I hadn’t even heard about that until this year when somebody mentioned it, must have been fairly recent?  OnX shows the boundaries now though.

I did check out the Tarpiscan Rd and parked by the game Dept house and hiked out past Lone Pine Canyon. Hopefully the recent snow gets them moving around.

Oh off the pass, yeah I knew about that access! Are you staying in Wenatchee?
