Remember there's 40 Tribal permits for moose in those units as well. Some of the dumbest advice I've ever heard would be no not take chances and follow up on specific bull. Many of the biggest bulls killed in your units units we're done exactly that way. :twocents:

Let's not derail this thread. I was simply letting the OP know that several of the biggest moose ever killed in this state were guys going away from their routine and following up a specific lead. Knowing who you're dealing with goes a long ways.

Is this for 101 ferry unit.
If it was me ,just me.
First place I'd look would be around lake Ellen.
Drainage that hold water.
South fork,bangs MT rd.
Anyplace with a creek or substantial water source.

No gonna lie ,been a few years since I crossed the river to hunt. But I have a few friends that go that way .
Last time I heard of a monster was last year around that lake Ellen . I also didn't know there was tribal tags too, maybe somebody got him.
Good luck I'll keep my ear out.
I rather piss in the wind, then have piss down my back.

I remember hearing somewhere that the tribal permits are not OIL and so a lot of them go unfilled.
$5 is a lot of money if you ain't got it

No. Just 15 total permits for the North Half, which includes all the units the OP drew. There are 60 permits for the South Half, which is all Reservation.

So I am curious, and haven't heard any thoughts yet, I know we should be there for the opener and take advantage of the rut, then I heard the deer hunters come in and things slow down. In between the rut and Nov is it the toughest time to find a bull?  If a guy had two weeks would it be best to do one week the first week and one in middle of Nov?  Or last week of Nov?  hate to have them shoot a bull and have its antlers fall off!!  lol

I would personally hunt the 1st two weeks if I only had 2 weeks off. Never know what deer hunter you'll run into who saw a big bull in a specific spot. If I had one more week off, it'd be the last week in November. I'd take the tiny risk of having a horn pop off. :twocents:

I do prefer searching for moose after the leaves have fallen and days are colder.  Falcon killed his bull IIRC the 3rd week of November, my step-son who had one of the North Half tags in '20 killed his bull about the 10th of November. Don't know if things slow down when deer and elk hunters are out there, but they are a good source of information.  Sometimes they just saw one down the road, usually they are very helpful and may even get their hands dirty.
