WTS Custom .308 Mauser action-left handed
« on: August 14, 2022, 09:55:24 PM »
Custom rifle with some history.  I purchased it as a 7mm Express (Custom wildcat by Roy Gradle) that was built by gunsmith Roy Gradle in CA. Barrel was in rough shape and stock was cracked.  Rifle was originally a right-hand mauser action, and was converted to operate with a left-handed bolt in a very unique way. To my knowledge there are only a handful of these converted rifles in existence.

Jeweled  bolt and magazine follower.

I did an ametuer repair job on the original stock. It could look great with more work. To fit the original stock with the current barrel, the barrel channel will need to be carved out to fit the fatter barrel.

Barrel is a Green Mountain 24" stainless fluted barrel. F54 contour.  The muzzle is threaded 5/8x24. There is a small tooling mark ring from placing the barrel in a steady rest on the lathe while threading the muzzle. This barrel has about 50 rounds through it.

Stock is a right-handed boyds thumbhole varmint heavy stock in salt/pepper color.

Bolt face is sized for 7mm WSM/300 win mag variants.  It works ok with .308, but doesn't eject casings great. Sometimes it drops the fired casing in the receiver before kicking it out the side.

Scope is a Bear Cub 2 3/4 x Double.  I have a One piece Picatinny rail scope base for it that can be included if interested in mounting other scopes.

I have a second barrel that can come with it. Green mountain F54 contour 24", Chrome Molly, muzzle is threaded 5/8x24TPI. This barrel has about 20 rounds through it.

Located in Port Orchard. I occasionally travel to eastern WA.  Buyer pays FFL.

Rifle, bipod, spare stock: $1400  $900

7mm Barrel: $100

Do you know who did the left hand conversion, I don't believe I've ever seen one done in this manner.
I delete my posts after two days.

I've never claimed to be a house painter or a mechanic so it always amazes me how many people want to claim to be a lawyer.

From what I've collected, it was done by a gunsmith named Roy Gradle, in Santa Barbara, CA back in the 50's or 60's.  The same gunsmith had his own wildcat caliber "7mm Express" (not the same as 7mm express/280 Remington) which is what this rifle was originally chambered in.
