Follow along-Wa Mule Deer Raffle
« on: November 06, 2022, 07:29:00 PM »
Hey all, longtime lurker here. I’ve spent a lot of time getting intel from this site and figured it’s my turn to contribute.

Little about me, I’m a 24 year old knucklehead who bought 10 tickets and won the mule deer raffle. I haven’t spent much time in the Chelan units but I have a decent amount of experience in the Desert. I really want to fill this tag in the mountains but we will see.

Started my journey in the desert scouting and setting trail cams in the desert. Tried my best to cover the unit and look at everything before November came. I turned up some nice bucks but no shooters.

Fast forward to November and here I am in the Entiat. First 2 days were slow with only small bucks and does and lots of road hunting. As I sit here writing this there’s about 10” of fresh snow and still coming so we will see what tomorrow brings.

Im excited for the journey of this tag and seeing where it takes me.

Good luck!

Having that permit should be awesome, especially with the current conditions.

Are you familiar with the unit? Do you have a plan on how to hunt it? I wouldn't want you wasting this weather just blindly trying to run into something. Hopefully one of the locals or guys with Entiat experience can chime in for you and put you on a good path. Good luck.

Highside, as many hours as I’ve spent researching on this site I almost feel like i grew up here :chuckle: just kidding. I feel good about what I got going and a pretty exact plan of what I want to do and when. On the other hand, I wouldn’t shy away from help or any pointers someone might throw my way.

Loggin off for a day or two. I’ll update you guys when I get back into civilization.

Welcome  :hello:! Lots of luck on the tag! this weather is fantastic for moving what is left of our deer around. I hope you find just the right buck to make you feel good about the hunt and hang on your wall to always remember "that one year" when you drew a magic ticket. Bring your chains, the best glass you can find and the attitude that that with your best effort you will be rewarded! Look forward to following along!

Good luck!!

You were dealt a heck of a hand with this weather, let alone the tag.  You may want to go pick up a powerball ticket. Lol.  I’d wish you goodluck, but you appear to have all of it already. How about have a great hunt!

Day 3: started off exciting with the fresh snow but was quickly brought down when my phone took a dump on me and had to head off the mountain. Luckily got it fixed quick and was back up the hill by about noon. Managed to scrounge out about 20ish deer with 8 bucks. All dinks.

Day 4: Frustration started setting in. Tried to climb up 4 different hills and had to turn around on every one of them. At this point I feel that I am absolutely not putting myself in position to kill a nice buck let alone a big one. Luckily my day was saved when I met Ironhead at about 2:30 and he said let’s take a drive. Immediately I felt that we were doing the right things and that good feeling came back. Within about the first 20 minutes we were looking at 2 nice bucks with the bigger of the 2 being a buck that was close to the 150-160 mark. The evening went on with more buck sightings and a lot more rut activity. I’d like to say I contributed to the successful evening but it’s hard to keep up with a guy as knowledgeable as Ironhead is.

Tomorrow will be my last morning in the Entiat for a bit. I’m gonna pack up camp and see what’s lurking in the cattails in 290.

With the early dump of snow this year, I'd stay right there in the Entiat. This kind of weather is what most late tag holders dream of!
