There is still 5-600 fish left in the quota.  I imagine they would open it up mid Aug for 2 or 3 days.
**From the July 15 notice**
Reason for action: Salmon fishing is being temporarily suspended because the sublegal encounter limit has reached 83% (3,209 of 3,845) of what was agreed to in this year’s List of Agreed Fisheries (LOAF). Feedback from Puget Sound Sports Fishing Advisory Group and other members of the public indicated a desire to preserve salmon fishing opportunity for August. Therefore, WDFW will suspend the fishery now to preserve opportunity for later in the summer season.

I spoke with a local bio friend yesterday that said WDFW has no intention of opening it up. He said they have 100+ chinook in the pens earlier than they have ever had them, and that’s with low warm water even. They think it should open for sport angling.

The derby scheduled for next week is going to be in trouble.

I believe the derby has been cancelled.  I also heard from a good source that they are not going to re-open chinook fishing in area 11.  13 will probably be next.  Death by 1000 cuts as far as hunting and fishing goes in this state.  What a CROC!

I can understand the chinook closer, but to close 11 for silvers and pinks is BS!

Any clue what their reasoning is for not opening it for pinks?

This bums me out.

My understanding is that the quota for "encounters" with undersized fish has been exceeded. I believe they determine this through in the field interviews with people fishing or at the ramps and reports from their research boats that fish the local waters. They then apply a super scientific formula to determine the number of actual encounters.  It has nothing to do with the actual catch quota of legal fish.  Consequently, they aren't going to allow any fishing in order to avoid any further encounters with sub-legals. It's all about their expert science and political agenda.   >:( :bash:

I would like them to revisit the “no fishing from a floating device” closure so we could hit the beach for pinks, but that won’t happen. So now I’m forced to go to the year around docks and try to catch as many wild kings as I can. Lol
