Got it done, broken ankle and all....
« on: November 18, 2023, 11:25:04 PM »
Early season I was finally able to get out and ended up breaking my ankle the first day out after passing two does out in the Islands. I thought it was just sprained so hobbled back out in the morning and missed a decent island forky at 35 yards. 😬

Talk about the definition of "Adding insult to injury."

Luckily, it started healing well and I was only required to wear a walking boot. After shooting my wife's Mossberg 500 at a target, I determined that it was defintiely user error on the miss.

I was able to get out for today for the last weekend and had this decent spike oblige me by coming by 25 minutes after legal shooting time started. Having not been able to hunt last year, and passing up a small spike in the same location two years ago, my freezer is pretty empty of venison. Thanks go out to a friend that came to help me drag one out, if needed, and the landowners that gave me permission to hunt.
This is deer #49 that family and friends have taken in 15 seasons hunting on the island where I lived for 14 years. The population numbers seem to have not rebounded much yet after the big die off two or three years ago in the islands.

Good luck to everyone still out tomorrow.

Congrats and thanks for posting. Great that you were able to get out before the seasons ended.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Nice work Ed! Glad the injury wasn’t as bad as it could be.

Nicely done!

Well done, Loki. It's nice to have some meat back in the freezer...from what I hear!

You won’t get any better table fare. I’ve partaken in a few island deer. Some of the best I’ve tasted. Congratulations.

Oops! Speedy recovery sir👍
